Well what can I say.Its a 2 mile walk to our favorite spot.It is a private spot on a farmers field which is oppersite a large rush lined bay on the local river. We normally get between 10 and 20 in a morning ,up to high twenties.Last week the river rose 18 inches in two hours which made the fishing impossible.
So we bombed out.
Knew we were wasting our time when my mate hooked a dead "cow" that came floating down.

im not entirely sure but the still water fish tend to be larger dont they?, as said in a previous thread ive not fished for pike for a fair old while now (about 10 years) but my largest came from a resivoir IIRC.

Never had a pike on the bank. hooked a couple but failed to land em, me dad was a good pike man, fished with him for 25 yrs till he had a stroke, ended up selling all me gear, wasnt the same anymore :( been thinking of getting some tackle though.

Sorry to divert this thread, although there is some relavance

The crew of a patrol boat were approaching an unfamilar harbour, so they consulted the pilotage guide to check the arrangement of the navigation bouys.

The watch keeper shouted out, white and black bouy ahead, the mate puzzled, said 'Are you sure it's white and black?' There's nothing in the book.

Just then the commander appears on the bridge, takes one look and said 'leave the dead cow to starboard please'

A true story!:p
