View Full Version : Sliding around in textiles

I have recently purchased some textile trousers and completed a couple of long rides. I've found these journeys more tiring due to the fact that I slip and slide around on the seat. I didn't realise how much I use my legs to 'grip' the tank and the seat when wearing leathers.
Does anyone have any handy hints or tips or know of any products that would help me to stay a bit more secure?
Cheers!

Glue or Gaffer tape? =P
Nah in seriousness i have found it just takes time, i sometimes find riding hard up against the tank helps or insted of that put more weight onto your feet to stop the sliding from side to side. Good luck!

I spray stuff on my leathers so I can slide around on the seat!

i know exactally where your comming from. When i got leather trousers i couldnt believe how "safe" it felt Now going back to textiles im all over the place when braking hard. You can get things called stomp pads for the tank that offer more grip but there a bit pricy. Im interested in any alternatives.
It's just because they are new. As the dirt grinds and they become more worn in they become less so.

And they look crap :D
I don't seem to slide around on my textiles, oddly...they are Joe Rocket if that changes anything!

Would rosin that gymnasts & climbers use for grip help? Would probably look $hite, though.
My textiles are OK but waterproofs were lethal ( but dry-ish )

What about that non slip mat? Just stick a bit around the seat.

LMAO!
Yeah just glue the seat of your pants to your seat and then get in them when you get on the bike. You aint going nowhere!

Or bolt the seat on when you sit down, just walk around with it stuck to your rse.

I think something that is stuck to the tank and helps me grip with my legs would be the most useful. Maybe I'll have a look for sticky pads or velcro or something.

I hate riding in my textiles due to the grip. I just end up riding a bit slower as a result. I will need to get a good pair of leathers for the summer though.
Similar problem here. My old textiles had a large leather patch which you sit on, and it was very good and comfortable.
My new textiles have patches of non-slip material under the bum, but its too far back to grip unless i sit upright like on a naked. It needs much more effort to stay in position, even in a fairly relaxed motorway crouch.
One of these worked for my gf as a pillion - they do them for the rider too. Might be worth trying.

I don't have a problem in textiles. although for a very short time I had to use a rubber matt thing that sat under panniers over the corbin seat...that was very slippy:smt115 until it got covered with the mat. Now I've used the Corbin for several hundred miles its fine, its lost the Mrsheen surface:-D

no you won't go flying:smt051
oh and stompgrip looks ****e, unless your called YC and have it on your tank, cause your tank already looks crap in the first place...but then it takes a certain taste to get a bike looking that.....er good:rolleyes:;)

Well I found a sticky backed, thin sheet of foam at work and fashioned a couple of pads that I've stuck to the sides of the tank. It looks OK as I've got a black bike but I haven't tested it to find out if its any good.

Bit harsh. I atually like yc's bike Unless it is blipping the throttle up our street. Im still getting dirty looks !!!!!! :smt019
I prefer the sliding around, much easier than leatehrs if you need to shift your wieght around when conering(which you should be trying anyway!)
Just use some of that non slip matting stuff you can get from most good retailers, or the more expensive triboseat!
I hate wearing my textiles for this exact reason, they are only cheap Spada textiles mind. There is no doubt different brands out there that provide grip.
I only wear textiles for my commute now.

110 mile round trip commute entirely along a very cold, wet and windy motorway. No corners, no shifting weight :(

Not harsh, he'd say the same...lol. ya see theres two pound of filler under the 'custom paint';) Its hardly likely to be nicked looking like that is it:rolleyes:......which I think is the idea.

Worth checking at places that sell horse riding gear. They sometimes do stuff that attaches to the **** on your jods giving you better grip on the leather saddle. Special patches. My HG textile suit has something similar already on it.
Once went on the back of a bike in my youth - many years ago - in crushed velvet leggings. Very bad idea. Nearly ended up sitting in the middle of a roundabout.

My textile trousers are the same. Was quite offputting when I got them.
I may get a pair of leather trousers next year- just for the grip!

reminds me of getting the lift off Im Indoors, on the back of his RD, in jeans...never ever again. I tried it a couple of times in jeans on the SV...never ever again...horrid and slippy. Odd as I don't in my Draggin ones :smt104
