Metal detectors

Does anyone know much about them? My mum has had an idea of getting my dad one for christmas, but we arn't too clued up...what could we get for under £150 thats not crap?

They detect metal you can and can't see, and my leg sets them off. ;)

Don't go for the super cheap ones is all I know.

I'd probably guess that this is an item that you really do want to spend money on, unless you are happy probing 1 mm under the ground.
