filling up car at tesco's on sunday, go into pay.

whilst in the que a nekkid silver pointy pulled up and started filling.

I was so curious as to if he was on the .org or not I forgot to give the lady my 5p off per litre voucher:rolleyes:

so I walked up to a complete stranger and said "alright mate you on the org?"...he looked at me like I was an alien:(

I explained its an SV650 meeting place and we do ride outs etc and help with technical issues and general sv;ness.

He said he would sign up and he liked the bike only had it a little while.

he has not joined that i have noticed :(

I feel like one of those charity dudes on the streets who hunt you with fake smiles and you say anything to get rid of them.

I think it was Shakazulu who was enlightening me on the joys of the org in a mate of mine's shop one day, when after about 20 minutes I told that I was already a member and gave him my posting name. He did a pretty convincing job.

Once upon a time, long, long ago...................

Yes done that, when this place was much smaller, flyers and accosting strangers on SV's was the norm, carried cards in my wallet and stuck one on any SV's parked up in bays I used, but then that was in the infant days of the Soho Massive (which was the first of the regional groups), don't really do it much anymore, although I often chat to strangers about bikes and it may come up in conversation.

After much hard work the Soho meeting has a degree of reputation of it's own now so it tends to be easier to say to people where it is and just pop along anytime they can (which is one reason a regular meeting place is important I beleive),
for the first couple of years the winter would see the friday meet sometimes drop to me stopping off for a coffee at nero's for half an hour, then heading off home, but always made sure a motorbike would be parked up there if anyone dropped by, once I had moved back to a Speed triple from the SV in early 2004, that no longer became necessary, winter attendance is normally 10-12 or so and high summer (if we ever have it) can see 40 odd bikes there.

Although we have a geographical advantage I suppose (as in high consentration), the Soho meets have always been, both outside* and technically illegal :smt107

All in all it's worked and continues to work well.

* all weather, part of the appeal is the busy friday night Soho wildlife passing .

Cheers Mark.

I'm glad I'm not the only one.

Accosted a young man at a filling station in Witham a few weeks back. Drove away feeling a right fool.

But he signed up and PM'd me, but havn't seen him post yet...

Must remind him about the AR09 as it's so close to him

I advertise the org all over my bikes :-)
I have been known to say 'do you do lunge?' to strangers...thats where 'lunge the new secret handshake' comes from....in fact when we're at Squires and the massive get together we get a lot of funny looks lunging at SV owners. I'm not embarrassed by asking strangers of they know about the site.

I asked a complete stranger at the Cat and Fiddle if they'd like to lunge with us when I was there with Dissuade and Pepin in the summer. Yeah, there was a funny look...

I also told a guy who attends the same martial arts club as me to join as he has an SV - he said he would and has never done so...or turned back up for another class.

I tried to recommend some fella this site but he then informed me that we just about to Trade his SV in for a VFR so gave up.

I also tried to recruit a guy on a GSXR750 who was complaining about not knowing where to go to hear about and attend rideouts. I was talking to him about NW4 and commenting on how great it was and that not once on the whole weekend day were we on a straight road. His exact words were....

'Oh bendy roads??? Id rather get off and push it round!!!'

Another great quote...

.

That's one thing I will never do. I read a thread on (I think) pistonheads about some guy who crashed into a biker (seriously injured but fortunately not killed) going the other way in Yorkshire while driving his tuned Civic. He had stickers all over his car advertising the website and the Police trawled through the site looking for posts where he'd admitted that he regularly thrashes up and down that road and broke the law. The guy went to jail for dangerous driving on the evidence presented, as it was used to prove the guy wasn't a responsible driver.

What's even better is that when she said no and stared at me like I was a freak, I just walked away and continued lunging without a word of explanation...

Ahhh i forgot too. I was talking to him about how you have to keep the revs above a certain point to stay in the 'power' band. He said he didn't know as he always changed before hitting 6000rpm.

Ah, now if I was the sort to behave like a plank on my bike then I'd get what i deserved, but I don't advertise myself on here as a person who constantly goes around thrashiing my bike....besides you have to look twice to notice that mine are advertising the site, as they are put where the usual decals are and the .org bit is tiny;)

Before I joined the org I was riding my old Bandit round locally when I happened across a cute young lady on a ratty looking black naked curvy SV at a level crossing. She looked terrified and was obviosly lost. A quick conversation revealed that she'd had a licence for some time but had never ridden outside of London. She was terrified of all the bends and as a result had missed a few junctions. I guided her slowly to the correct route and then waved her goodbye.

I wonder if she posts here?

I don't go mental on the roads any more, but there are thousands of posts out there in internetland where I openly admit to riding like a complete nobber at speeds way in excess of the legal limit. It's those sorts of posts that could still help to have me locked away if they were presented as evidence.

So now you know who to blame!!!;)

I've done that. Totally failed on most occasions :) Though I've brought people in from other sites, and at least one real person. And I've been asked "Are you on the org" a couple of times, which was nice. Randomly managed to go to the scottish bike show one year and not meet a single scottish organist, then met 2 of the essex crowd in the car park

well this is all good, i feel a bit less of a nerd now lol.

when I first joined id chat to my mrs about the help id recieved on here...so id be like "(insert an org techy name DD, YC, NW) said i need to pull the carbs out and do this that or the other"

she used to really take the p*ss outta me,

but now, few months later, she;s asked questions like "how did DD get on with his proposal" etc...

so although she is not a member....she has still been converted!!

You don't hand out info, you two press gang people! More than once I have seen folks frog-marched to their bikes to join a rideout! :-D

I have the cards Baph did, but don't have any in my bum-bag at the moment (must print more). Have often left cards on random SVees at the various biking honey pots around N. Wales.

Grinch did it!! introduced falc to the org when they met on portsdown hill then i married him falc not grinch that is

Reminds me of what I think is the most famous line in English literature:

'Reader, I married him. A quiet wedding we had: he and I, the
parson and clerk, were alone present. When we got back from church,
I went into the kitchen of the manor-house, where Mary was cooking
the dinner and John cleaning the knives, and I said -

"Mary, I have been married to Mr. Rochester this morning." The
housekeeper and her husband were both of that decent phlegmatic
order of people, to whom one may at any time safely communicate a
remarkable piece of news without incurring the danger of having
one's ears pierced by some shrill ejaculation, and subsequently
stunned by a torrent of wordy wonderment. Mary did look up, and she
did stare at me: the ladle with which she was basting a pair of
chickens roasting at the fire, did for some three minutes hang
suspended in air; and for the same space of time John's knives also
had rest from the polishing process: but Mary, bending again over
the roast, said only -

"Have you, Miss? Well, for sure!" '

Do you mean 10 Pence Short? I didn't think they got him for dangerous driving based on posts (on PH anyway)...I thought they got him for it just based on the circumstances...

But I don't like stickers all over my bike anyway so I agree with you ;) (plus, it could be used in the way you describe)

They made a point of using his previous posts on the forum he was on (not pistonheads but some hot-hatch forum) as proof he had intentions to break the law, which contributed to their case for DD against him.

It may sound bad, but I think the police are well within their rights to do this, and if you post these sort of things then you can expect to take the heat when it all goes wrong for you. This is the main reason why I don't have forum addresses on my bikes - there's way too much information about illegal riding activity out there that I've posted or been mentioned in.

Yup, because nobody ever lies on the internet ;) I can't see how it can carry any weight in court personally, it just seems absurd. Just look at any top speed thread... "My SV does 145mph and still climbing". I mean seriously... The ones to watch are the ones who never mention how they ride :)
