Need a new battery for a Kwak KMX 125. Replacing parts & servicing before I sell it on. Think the battery I need is a YB4LB but I don't have a 12v charger. Should I get one? Will I need one for future SV batteries? Also don't know where to get one from at the cheapest price, do I have to buy seperate acid?

Any bike shop should get you one if you know the number.

Would recommend an optimiser for any bike esp the SV big twins need good cranking power.

Shops should supply and fill the acid don't know about ebay etc.

Something like the Oximiser? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270263628713&category=25643&refid=store

Is that a good one? Do you reckon it would be able to recover a fully discharged battery? Thought about getting one of these to avoid getting a charger http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280277409395&cguid=5608163811e0a0e202f04480fdb6bf5f

Optimate, Oxford Optimiser, Datatool Battery Conditioner... all good products and all do the same job.

Aye, and if your battery is tucked away behind fairings/seats I recommend fitting one of these for easier access.....

That's pretty cheap and looks like a good bit of kit cheers buddy. Got a draper one in the mean time from a friend, just whacked the battery on to charge, topped up the cells, it's now fizzing away. Do I just leave it overnight with the cell caps out?

Yes overnight should do it.
Depends on the amps/hour and the charger.

I.e. if its .5-.6 amp charger and its a 10 amp battery then 20 hours woud do if you get my drift.

Thats what i have always done.

http://www.mdsbattery.co.uk/images/products/Fullsize/OPTD-LEAD.jpg Of course if you have an older oximiser then that lead won't fit. At some point they changed the connector. I have yet to find a supply of the old type. I foolishly left my original one on an NC 30 when I sold it.
If any one has an older type connector tht they don't want then I would gladly take it off their hands.

I have an adaptor that came with the Maximiser to convert it if you want if its the right one.

It not weather proof just 2 diff ends to convert to new style waterproof connector.

There are only two options, the one which fits the earlier and the one which fits the later Optimate. Do a search on Google for Optimate accessories, they are a few on line shops still selling them.

Just a question on battery chargers.. are there any out there that doint need a direct access to mains supply whilst charging (A battery powered battery charger so to speak) I live in flats and my garage doesnt have a mains supply :(

Using a mains supply actually means rolling the bike up to a communal door and using an exension lead from a communal supply (automatically peeing off the neighbours as the cost is shared)

I suppose I could roll the bike across the grass and charge from an extension dangling out the window :P

Any help would be appreciated

I have an Optimate 111 and it came with an extension connection with crocodile clips so you could connect to a battery with it that way.
