Has anybody on here been banned for dangerous driving i want to know how to get my bike licence back?
I was convicted of dangerous driving in the summer of this year with the added usual stipulation of having to do an extended car test before i am allowed to drive on the road again.
The procedure for driving a car is straight forward i.e wait untill the 12month ban expires, apply for provisional, complete driver training, complete hazard perception and theory test and finally undertake extended car test.
Now looking on the dvla website i cant figure out what happens about my previously held full catagory A motorcycle entitlement.
Does it get reinstated as soon as i have passed my extended car driving test (and completed cbt again reading the info below) or do i have to start from scratch on the bike too and take the whole test again (das)
this is all i could find but its not clear too me.
Motorcycle riders
When your disqualification ends, you’ll need to complete compulsory basic training (CBT) again. This validates the motorcycle entitlement on your new provisional driving licence when it’s issued. This applies in all cases, even if you previously held full motorcycle entitlement. The DL196 ‘certificate of completion’, issued for completing your CBT before you were disqualified, is cancelled by the disqualification.

Just to add more info i was banned for being caught on my bike riding at excessive speed, 130mph on a nsl country road. I know what i did was wrong i plead guilty in court at the earliest oppourtuninty and got found guilty of dangerous driving given a dd40 on my license a 12 month ban and a £400 fine plus ordered to complete the extended driving test.
I know what i did was wrong
Sound like fun to me :smt083 Time and a place, it's just a shame you got caught.
Edit: No idea about the licence issue, surely a quick call to the DVLA or DSA would clear it up......they are in charge of it all so keep them on the phone until they give you a satisfactory answer.
I have.
When you apply for your licence again all your current categories will be automatically reinstated. UNLESS you have HGV. I had to wait a further 6 months past my 18 month ban before they would allow me my class 1 category back. This was because they decided I needed to familiarise myself to the road again after an extended period off the road.
Edit: You will need to complete CBT training. But do not need to complete your driving test again. Thought I would just make that clear.

Yeah, works for me. After all, what is a Copper going to do? It's not like they have any power to stop you or anything. Using similar logic I was able to murder and eat my neighbour, while filming it for the internet.
This is what I say to the law... :smt019
PS, don't tell my Mum, she will be cross. She is still looking after next doors cat because she thinks they went on holiday to Greece! :smt040

As far as I am aware, you can pass either the car or bike test and you get both back.
Not 100% sure though, Just think i've read that somewhere.

psst Jayneflakes - can you pm me the url.:)
Best to do it that way rather than post the link up here. Some of the mods are a bit over sensitive and would probably claim that snuff movies are not suitable for a u rated forum. :D

No...got banned for being ill though  never had a single point in my life either :-(
I got banned 6 months before I was old enough to have a license... for 3 months so it didn't account for anything...

had about 10 or more catagories on the license before now I've only got four, can get them back if I fork out about a hundred quid for a medical and re apply for them:mad:

If you have been banned and have to do the extended retests, you need to do your car and bike , including the theory test once. You get your license back with only provisional entitlement for both.
Extended retest costs double, car and bike each, but the testers don't usually do the double amount of time. (A small conscelation) . If you had your licenses for a while you NEED to get lessons for both. Loads of people FAIL cos they think they don't need it. (A few lessons actually good fun, seeing how bad some people ride a bike and in a car , with the old arm on the window ,one hand on the wheel etc.:) )
A friend of mine,*cough* went out and passed his retest for bike(3 minors:cheers:) and just drove about on a provisional car with the missus as passenger in the car for years. (Car tester, years later was a biker so spent 40mins gassing about bikes, 1 minor:cheers:)
Get ready to spend a fortune and made to feel like a criminal for the next 10years. You get less for housebreaking or attempted murder.
Don't let the *******s grind you down. Track days and loony pillioning ahoy!

Sucks doesn't it :( I lost my 7.5 tonne lorry entitlement which doesn't really matter as I dont drive horseboxes anymore but still got my trailer entitlement. Once Ive "done" 7 years with 3 year reviews then it should be reinstated in full.

Well it sounds like you know your stuff so not going to argue at all. I apologise for any miss information I have given. I did not have to complete any retests or training. Does that mean I got off lightly?
Your right about feeling like a criminal for the next 10 years though.

Aye,the extended re-test is a wee extra they chuck in after your ban and fine if they feel like it. Things may have changed. Its never for the better tho' eh!?
A friend of mine (really this time), license 30yr, accelerated flat-out, head behind the clocks, after the big roundabout in Dumbarton onto the huge dual carrigeway up to Loch Lomond as every biker up here does.
Slowing down for the big Balloch roundabout 2miles? later he took his chin off the tank of his Bandit6, checked his mirrors to see blue flashies of a traffic motor.
"Doing you for 110mph in a 60mph" (Only?My mate is "sturdy"),
"Where did you see us?"
"Just there the noo."
"Do you know where we saw you?"
"Naw"
"Sat behind you at 1st roundabout."
Whaddaya say?!
Only a 3month ban, little fine cos he wore his SAS uniform ....(Saturdays And Sundays;)) and had an Iraq ribbon. Fair do's. He had been looking for a wheelchair. Got his picture in the local rag, and folk plastered it all over the work. "Maniac Biker Banned" etc.
Class.
