View Full Version : thinking about doing my car test
yep tried the world of cars a few years back but never really gelled and didnt bother with the test after doing a load of lesson's but think i'm gonna give it another shot soon just looking at what sort of car would be a nice one to keep really liking mazda's at the minute or maybe a legacy something along those line's that i'm not gonna get bored off not interested in small car's tbh i'd just end up selling it after a few month's any suggestion's would be cool.

Alfa Romeo 156.
Has been my favourite car i've owned so far. Tremendous performance and engine for literally no money.
I got a 2001 Veloce Model with the ridiculous spolier. £1500. :)
I miss that car.
not sure about italian car's though as it's going to be relieving the sv of commuting role i need it to be reliable i think it'll have to be a jap car just don't know what i'm looking at tbh and the insurance seem's to be rediculous on anything above 1.6 tried a mazda 3 series and they quoted me over £800 i dont think so.

Yup insurance will be ridiculous if you have no no claims.
Your in the boat going the other way than me :)
Im found bike quotes were ridiculous!!!
You want a reliable Jap car??? Wanna buy my Lexus?? ;)
i know i get bike insurance for sod all on crazy loony machines hayabusa yes sir daytona 955i why not 1.6 family saloon phwoar are you sure you can handle that much raw power rediculous and is your lexus a 1.4.

is your lexus a 1.4.
No its a 2.0. Sorry.
Yeah where as I looked for insurance for a few bikes and the SV was the only reasonable one.
i think where i'm going wrong is most people who have no ncb buy something carp like a corsa or fiesta or summat ghey like that i want something that's gonna last me not get bored of it and be comfortable theres got to be something.

Ahhhhhhhh
Well what I did when I got my first decent car was include that cost of a years insurance in the cost of the car i.e.:
I took out a £6k. Bought a Mini Cooper Sportspack for £4500 and my insurance for the year was about £1500
The next year my insurance dropped by half.
i may just have to plump up the extra for the mazda i cant be bothered driving a crap car just to get the no claim's and then have to sell it and buy another.

Don't completely go on engine sizes or insurance groups. When I was getting my first car the likes of a clio, fiesta, micra, 106, saxo etc (teen cars as I like to call them) all one litre engine size or thereabouts and all low insurance group, but they were all mega more expensive than my eventual car - 1.6 rover 200 ('99 model - which performance wise was quite impressive for a first car at 17! But...then the headgasket went and had to do an engine swap!)
I'm guessing your over 21 so I wouldn't at all be surprised if you can get yourself insured on a two litre for next to nothing. Try something like a Honda Accord 1.8, only insurance group 8ish and it's a Honda so bound to be reliable!
Also, I'd give Liverpool Victoria insurance a try! They undercut everyone else by a grand when I did mine and I got doube no claims for the first year of the policy and it was transferable to another insurance company. Don't know if they still do this deal though but you could always ask!
Apologies if the above contains major grammatical and spelling errors...I've been on the sauce this evening but I did my best! :batman:
an accord possibility i've been looking at 323 mazda's and nissan almera's so far they seem to be cheap to insure but you can get a fairly good sized car for your money.

modern cars are a lower insurance group aswell
i had a 1995 1.5D 106, only had it 6 months so didn't get any no claims, sold it bought a 2000 1.4 astra, faster, bigger, a million times more flashy............. 300 quid cheaper on insurance
newer the better although i'll probably only have about £1500-£2000 max for the car but it's a buyer's market hahaha.

sort of, at the time i was looking at year old cars and a 1.8 vectra was only 400 quid more on insurance than the astra, its wierd
oh brand new nah could never afford it.

I'm thinking about doing my car test eventually too, something that I should really do. I'm happy on the bike but it's so bloody cold all the time!
ha yeah amazes me the people who buy new bike's every year more money than sense.

Just get another bike but with a Side car you could put your food shopping in there :P
Don't bother - no matter what day of the week and what time of day or night you can't get anywhere in a car. Well not fast anyway.......I used to love my cars but now I don't even own one.
