thats a fair bit of wedge, you buying new?

i was definetly not looking at spending that much when the time comes, more like 6k max.

You can get low mileage 05's for just under 6k.
This may be a good one to start with http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2000-SUZUKI-GSX-1300-R-HAYABUSA_W0QQitemZ220324063032QQcmdZViewItemQQptZU K_Motorcycles?hash=item220324063032&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A2%7C65%3A3%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318

I think the ugly-ness is beautiful :D
Wouldn't mind a shot of one, but I think it would be too heavy

I dont know what they are like to ride, I've seen some very accomplished riders rung rings round others, Jelsters mate on the North / South the other year springs to mind.

You want my honest opinion, I reckon you want to give it a year or two yet. Build up your skills and ride your SV legally derestricted for a while. Whilst your doing this you can build up your no claims bonus which you're going to need when it comes to insurance time.

Just get the miles in on your SV they'll pay you back over and over again when you get on a bike with more power.

doubt he means getting one straight away busa's restricted would probably be slower than the sv restricted that would be embaressing.

Just be aware any bike like a busa even after a period on a de-restricted SV, is going to feel fast. Even a 955 is going to demand a period of re-adjustment. It not just the extra BHP, its the brakes and chassis that go with it.

I reckon it took me 3 - 6 months to adjust to my GSXR when I got it and that was after 2 years everyday, all weather SV riding. I'm not saying you wont be capable of riding it, its just that it might take you a while to really gel with it and get the most out of it thats all....

how many years under your belt before its worth thinkin about?
Its not about the years under your belt, its all about your mentality and ability to ride within your limits as with any other motorcycle.

apparently they are horrific, almost unrideable because of the weight
Aye, when restricted they are it is an IL4 engine and the Busa does weigh a fair bit too. With a full power Busa you hardly feel the weight when you are on the move, don't get me wrong they are still heavy bikes and require a little more effort than the razor sharp full on sports bike to get around the corners but that is to be expected.

How comes you're in the 33bhp club? Why didn't you take the direct access?

I have an all black Busa, it has similer wheelbase to a GSXR11 WC. Seat is lower, it is sleeker, Lighter and has more power. I never seem to get the throttle onto the max stop in 6th gear. Its looks are not to everyones taste but each to their own. I found the brakes were not as good as the 11 but set of sports pads and stainless hoses sorted that out.

Dump the 6-pots and fit some 4-pots, they offer better braking power and feel.

Maybe, but what I meant was the brakes on the 11 and the Busa look the same. But felt so different when applied. As my 11 is a little older it had the better pads and the stainless hoses. Once I did that to the Busa it was fine. I also changed the discs, planning to use the Busa discs on a project.
Cheers for the advice.

Disc's won't offer much, unless the ones you have a passed there sell by date.

yeah, I have a deristricted 04 which I've hd from new, spent about another £6k on it since new. dymag wheels, carbon fibre, carbon akrapovics, power comander etc etc. Do not go from an sv to the busa as it will end in tears. get an IL4 600 then maybe a 900 0r older 1000 before.

good points - the engine is a monster, acceleration, finish is fairly good for a suzuki, the engine, wheelies on the power at over 100mph, comfortable, can be ridden sedately, did I say the engine?

bad points - brakes are appaling as standard, far too easy to go silly fast on, can be a nightmare in the wet as it wheel spins everywere if you arent smooth and carefull, the bike is heavy and can catch you out into corners - I had the suspension changed and set up which transformed it. very very expensive to run if used hard - in under 7000 miles i have used 5 rear tyres and 3 fronts, a set of chain and sprokets, and two sets of front and rear pads. insurance can be a problem if youre not an old git.

otherwise I absolutely love it.

£-12000 is negative. ie I need to pay off debts before I can even think about it :smt104
It'll be on its 3rd version by the time i've saved up :(

RE: powerfull bikes and new riders

Throttle works both ways - just make sure you are carefull. I'd love a 'busa for longer journeys. stick it in top gear and ride the torque...i believe its over 100 ftlb
