View Full Version : double glazing
theres condensation inbetween the glazing on 2 of my bedroom windows, and the seals on the top openening bit dont seem too good, as i live on a main road, and can hear all the traffic, and people talking outside at night.
the frames are both 42 inch X 68 inch in total size, and about 10 -12 years old and made of wood,
any ideas on how much it would cost to replace them?
did u just want to put in new sealed units ,or complete new frames.
Wait till its a bit warmer(dont want your widows out in this weather) and I'll come over and give you a hand

I think you should get new frames (PVC); the wood might be rotten?
Keep the house warmer too
i was thinking of replacing the 2 in my room with pvc,
although thinking about it, it might be worth doing the whole house?

Depending on the condition of the wooden windows you could just have the units replaced. I wouldn't personally go for this option because wooden windows are the child of Satan. U-PVC is the way forward as long as a decent company fits them. They save money on heating, shields allot of the outside noise, pretty much maintenance free and they are so easy to clean. :)
If your wooden windows are brown and you are going to replace them with white U-PVC then it might be worth doing the whole house. But if your not too bothered about a bit of mismatching then just do the ones you need to do for now.
Can you tell I fit U-PVC windows for a living. ;)
i dont like the white ones,
so i would be going for brown pvc

In that case then you can do a window here and there without it looking too bad. The only down side to any coloured U-PVC is the price increase. But on the positive side any colour other then white does look dam nice. :)
i see that short bald dude with long hair, on the tv you know the one
you buy one you get one free, i say you buy one you get one free

Until the colour fades and you can't paint them.

Sounds to me like the company who did them used the cheap U-PVC profile.
...and don't forget to get your FENSA certificate. Another complete waste of money scam dreamt up by the ODPM (i.e. John "thumper" Prescott when he wasn't sha&&in& on the desk), but you'll need it come time you sell the property and need the HIP, another complete waste of money scam...........etc

Oh how I soooo agree with you.
Now listen folks, it's about time people stopped agreeing with me, this is the second thread and it's worrying. I don't want to think that there are lots of people around who are as bitter and twisted as I am, it's just not good for society.
Make a New Year's resolution and don't agree with me, eh? ;)
.........and happy new year to everyone and their nearest and dearest

i just had our bedroom windows done and a back door, good reputable company, paid 400 for each windows and 550 for the door, all in white tho because it had to match the already white downstairs windows and porch.
