I was down George Whites today, just for something to do and to keep the kids quiet when i spotted in the main showroom some Arai Viper Web lids for £299.

Tried one on and thought about it for a long time before deciding to look on the net at prices, can only find them for between 385>450 online.

may be in there tomorrow picking one up ready for the (ahem!) summer ! :)

Most likely, there is no web design for 2009.

My last Arai had the manufacture date imprinted on the strap, useful to check how old the offer helmet is.

All helmets have the date somewhere.

I love my arai. Had it almost two years now, still fits comfortably like it always has done

300 notes for a lid after xmas you must have too much money.

Have you ever crashed in a cheap lid?

krhall

Yep!

Anyone know how arai's fair in crashes? I'm after a new lid, was going for the same bmw/schuberth lid I had before because it fitted really well and took the biggest impact in a crash. Saying that I don't really want to spend much more than £200 on a lid my beemer one was £150.

Would've been a lengthier reply, but due to most of my brain now being mush I am unable to.

Yep!
How'd that go? I've had a 20-25 mile an hour off in a £20 lid did okay (it was brand new) I bought another and after a few weeks the lining went really baggy so it didn't fit properly. Bought the bmw one and had a 40-45mph head impact in that and I had no head injury. Doctor reckoned if I had have been weraing a cheap/poor fitting one I would have snapped my neck

Admitedly my spill was a low speed one, but my head took some of the impact with the ground. The lid I had came out quite well in sharp tests as dos my new lid. I know these test are supposed to be a bit floored but what else do you go on.

My current (new) lid comes out better in SHARP than that Arai lid.

How cheap are you calling cheap? Sharp didn't even bother to test the vcan v1000 I had.

The BMW sport integral I had took about 40mphish to the the top of the roof/rear windscreen of an audi (visor/forehead area) and then a drop from kind of top of car to tarmac distance and I didn't even get concussed. Maybe I'm wrong but It makes me trust them now.

My first lid the one I came off wearing was £69.99 Nitro V800 and my current lid was on special, I paid £29 inc delivery for RST Cobra Vent.

Not too sure I'd want to do that sort of thorough testing!

I've had a £50 nitro lid that actually was alright but stopped wearing it because I wore a ballaclava under it once like a **** and it got mis-shapen. I know someone that's had a horrible crash in the same one and allthough it smashed open (I've heard they shouldn't) his head was fine...broke his back and sternem and loads of other stuff too though :(

Buy it, Arai are the best you can buy
+ 1, I have had three Arai RX7's and they are the best helmets I have ever had and also fit me perfectly.

Anyone know how arai's fair in crashes?
After head butting the side of a car at 55mph, going over the top of that and landing on the bonnet of another before sliding off and landing head first on the road I sustained no brain damage (the miss' will disagree with that though).

All the doc's had to do was drill a small hole in the back of my head to relieve some of the pressure because my head came to a sudden stop twice, not due to the actual impact.

Mine feels like its moulded to my head. The lining still feels like new after 2 or 3 months, makes my old Nitro feel almost scary.

Cheers for 'testing' them dave, nice to know.

i think i'll buy it tomorrow, wish they did the old mick doohan replica lids still, my last Arai was the gigga reggae doohan rep and it was fab, even bouncing down the road at 50mph with my head inside, i loved that old lid !

viper web tomorrow though, they have the chris walker rep there as well but i think the web goes better with the bike !:smt104

"Blowing the Lid Off" (http://www.motorcyclistonline.com/gearbox/motorcycle_helmet_review/index.html)

Then go out and buy the cheapest lid you want with confidence it'll be just as safe as the most expensive lid you can find.

Just make sure it fits properly and if it has all the features you want. Maybe that's an Arai for £600, or maybe it's a Lidl "B-Square" for €30, or something in-between (Shark, AGV, Suomy etc).

I just bought a NUVO "Brigade" in carbon/black, + a spare smoked visor - ECE22-05, gold sticker, double D-ring strap, fully removable liner, really good paint, lots of vents - for all of £100.

Yeap, your right last years colours (not that it makes any difference).

I'm dull and have a plain old white RX7, which replaced the grey RX7, which replaced the race rep RX7.

I have Arai stickers on my trackbike fairing, they cover the holes where the indicators use to poke through.
