How much is the ferry?

Ferry information:

Western (http://www.western-ferries.co.uk/contact.shtml) ferries Between Hunter's Quay (Dunoon) & McInroy's Point (Gourock)
Every 20 mins, £3.50 per motorcycle, need to confirm if this includes rider but dont think so. £3.50 per passanger.

Calmac (http://www.calmac.co.uk/winter-timetable.html?id=winter-cowal--gourock-dunoon.gif) ferries, Dunoon - Gourock.
1 per hour (10 to the hour) £4.10 per m/c + £2.90 PP = £7

Ive emailed both companies asking how many bikes they can transport and any chance of a discount (worth a try) i'll let you know when they reply.

What about the petrol station near the Little Chef
Sounds perfect. We could probably do with a re-group there after the Great Western Road traffic light lottery anyway.

I've now got almost all the bits I need to get the bike back on the road, assuming the forks are OK and they've only turned in the yokes and there nothing broken inside the bikini fairing that I can't see. [-o<

I'd really love to come on this as it would be my last rideout with SV Ecosse before I move down to England permanently on the 1st March.

I'm back home the week before the rideout, every evening will be dedicated to bike fixing!

well peeps ,is it ok for me to turn up (no bike though?)i could just meet u in largs and then follow behind in my car up to the hurlet?
:( il b good ,,,honest:cool:
if ok ,when do you think youl b in largs?

As Tiger55 said 2 pm is the plan, how realistic this is I'm not sure, I'll paste the route and timings at the bottom of this thread. The last leg the ferry and 10 mile run to largs should take no more than 40mins, If you can get to largs in that time them someone could call you as we gather to board the ferry so you're not hanging about if we're running late.

Route (A' La Tiger55)

1. Meet at Hein Gericke "272 Greart Western Road" 10am for 10:15 departure. (A) Ride west A82 (great western / dumbarton Rd) 11miles

2. Regroup at little chef Milton (pick up Kate) Fuel if required. 10:45 11am departure. (B) Continue A82

3. A82 to loch lomond, 12 miles, left turn (Glen fruin / military road) to Gareloch head, 9miles. Must mark this junction!!

4. 2nd exit at roundabout A814 to Arrocher (Wibbly Wobbly:twisted:)Watch the drain covers. 9miles, Regroup at roll hut (C).

5 A83 (rest and be thankfull:batman:) 11miles, Left turn, Regroup at viewpoint A815 to Hunters Quay via Loch eck and Ardbeg 30miles. Must mark this Junction!!

6 .Regroup Board ferry at hunters Quay, every 20 mins, 20 min cruise. No on board romances please.:smt008

7. Rt Turn onto A770, then 3rd exit at roundabout onto the A78, through Inverkip to Largs, 10miles. Nardinis (D) for ice cream.:smt040 13:30 - 14:00 apx

8. Head to Hurlett inn?? for burger and a blether, route by someone that knows where the hell it is please then homeward bound.

Well thats the plan (http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=d&saddr=272+Great+Western+Rd,+Glasgow,+Glasgow+City+ G4,+UK&daddr=A82%2FGreat+Western+Rd+to:A82%2FDumbarton+Rd +to:56.081232,-4.822998+to:56.199014,-4.748073+to:A815%2FShore+Rd+to:Nelson+St&hl=en&geocode=%3BFVr4VAMdcmy9_w%3BFduCVQMdjxe7_w%3B%3BFW aHWQMd14y3_w%3BFQYyVgMdho60_w%3BFQNkUwMdnrS1_w&mra=dpe&mrcr=1&mrsp=3&sz=9&via=1,3,5&sll=56.049034,-4.614258&sspn=0.664179,1.749573&ie=UTF8&ll=56.002988,-4.696655&spn=0.664971,2.793274&z=9), Route to and location of eaterie please by whomever feels qualified.

nardinis it is then ;)

Tiger 55
10-02-09, 03:42 PM
Route to and location of eaterie please by whomever feels qualified.
In a nutshell - linky (http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=Largs&daddr=55.818527,+-4.372457&hl=en&geocode=%3BFR-5UwMdF0i9_w&mra=ls&sll=55.807166,-4.388008&sspn=0.036176,0.076904&ie=UTF8&ll=55.79028,-4.837418&spn=0.036192,0.076904&z=14)

In words -

1. South out of Largs on the main A78 Greenock road for a mile or so to turn off for A760 Kilbirnie Road Must mark this junction!!

2. 9 miles of deserted country road to downtown Kilbirnie. Right at first wee roundabout, then third exit at next wee roundabout onto B780 signposted Dalry/Irvine. Must mark these junctions!!

3. What shall we say, half a mile or so, bear left onto B777 Beith road. Must mark this junction!!

4. Coupla miles to the main road - A737 - outside Beith, the Manrahead Roundabout. Second exit onto the A737 signposted Paisley/Glasgow. Must mark this junction!!

5. Pay attention! Else you'll end up in Paisley and we don't want that. Just under a mile it's right turn off the A737 back onto the B777, signposted Gateside/Lugton. Must mark this junction!!

6. 4 miles of B Class racetrack into the beating heart of metropolitan Lugton. Left onto the A736 signposted Glasgow. Must mark this junction!!

7. Last 6 miles of giving it the business. After entering Barrhead and before the Main Street roundabout, disused (I think) petrol station just after Tesco - Regroup. Don't want anybody getting lost in Barrhead, you haven't got the form.

8. Follow-me-I-know-the-way over a couple of roundabouts, signposted Glasgow A736, mile or so outside Barrhead, The Tobey Carvery Hurlet. Presto! Prestoni! Half a shandy all round.

So it's follow the signs for Kilbirnie, Dalry, Paisley, Lugton, and Glasgow. In that order. Any questions?

3. What shall we say, half a mile or so, bear left onto B777 Beith road.
Did the recce today and discovered that the Kilbirnie neds are so lacking in ambition they're reduced to nicking numbers off road signs...

Where it says 'Beith B77' it really means 'Beith B777'.

Must, must mark that junction!

And lord only knows where Longba is...

I'm probably out for this one, looks like I can catch a lift and a roofrack space down to the borders for some mountain biking so I'm going to grab the opportunity while it lasts (can't drive, so can't get there otherwise). But that might still fall through or get shifted to another day

Shona, you mainly notice a big difference in how steady it feels plus open it past 7k and it feels like warp speed, i hope you were asking and not just being rhetorical lol.

really tempted, my manager went "can you work on sunday" to me earlier and i said i'd get back to him, so will tell him "nah i'm off out to play with a hairdressers car and some guys in leather!"

wonder how that will go down!

Guys?? i'd be tempted to say that as a collective for a group of mixed gender, americanism i think rather than the historic gender specific implication. Anyway sure Adam was not being sexist, he's too young to developed that level of maturity and understanding yet;)

I can't read the What Mountain Bike mags that people leave in the office. They always seem to fall open at reviews like 'Cranks - We test 10 of the best for £1000+' and I have to have a lie down.

Mountain bikers are a sad and obsessed group, it's true, capable of thinking and talking about nothing but mountain bikes, and never really aware of just how boring their obsession is to everyone else. So exactly like motorcyclists :D

Any easties needing directions, leave the M8 at jct 17 signed A82 Dumbarton, keep right, takes you back over motorway then its dead straight until you see Heingericke on the Right hand side.

Darren / suicide I can meet both either wherever suits, either stirling services or else where, was planning to go in via kilsyth / bishopbriggs rather than motorway blast if it suited, i'll pm my mob number, If i dont hear anything i'll see you all there.

just spent 20 mins replying to a pm from ad53 before reading his post above to ignore it. doh!

For everyone else. Hein gericke 10 for 10:15 depart, regroup and collect Kate at little chef 10:40 ish then head to largs, should be at largs 14:00, so you could be back at glasgow by 15:00 if you were in a hurry. this gives you a couple of options for meeting points and times if you have other commitments, could even meet at nardinis do the wee run and have a beer and a blether in the afternoon if it suited, anyone wants my mobile drop me a pm, i'll check in the morning before i get ready.

Bee safe.

Great roads too, got my juices flowing to go a bit further next time out.

Holy crap was it hot in that pub though! Finally gave up on a table for 10 and then gave up totally when they had no kids menu. KFC was smashing though...

Here's as many as fit in the frame at the start. Notice that everybody is ready, while they guy leading is busy taking blurry photos. Oops

Thanks to kg for organising a great day. Hope to see you soon Dx

Kilted Ginger
23-02-09, 10:02 AM
Thats one of the best thing about our rides, there never is any pressure to go any faster than you fel comfortable with, There is no "strict order" so anyone who wants to overtake can, or if they are happy sitting where they are its all good. As long as noone passes the leader and the TEC stays at the back it always tends to go smoothly, as long as folk rember to mark the junctions;)
Glad everyone enjoyed it, was a good day and the weather was kind considering its February. Nice to meet some new faces and catch up with some older ones.

Suicide, sorry if dissappeard on the way home, was in a bit of a hurry.

Good to see Jb looking so well.

Dawn, you're better going at the front if you feel you are running slightly slower than others, then if they want to pass they will, that way you dont arrive at the regroups last and feel you're holdiing folk up, which your not.

Award of the day to Kate for voulenteering to flit a small villages posessions whilst on a ride out, didn't realise you'd been camping for 3 weeks;)

Take care out there

Oil light update - my mechanic (OH) took the belly-pan off and then removed the oil pressure switch rubbery cap. Oh dear! All very rusty in there. When I saw the state of it, it looks pretty much like that is what was wrong.
