I've seen a few posts suggesting an intro so i guess i'll do mine.
I'm only 21, a youngster by... all standards? Unless people actually exist who will buy a bike and restrict it. I live in telford, Shropshire, - Shropshire being the nice part and the former being the enima of it - and i'm a bit bored at the moment, hence the motorbike licence.
As soon as i became 21 i picked up the phone and booked my CBT, (i'm aware i didn't need to wait that long, i just wanted it all at once) and since then i've been doing my DAT, which is basically completed. Sadly my test was cancelled due to bad weather, which we all have opinions on how bad it actually was, and i'm still waiting. I haven't ridden for nearly a month now and i'm craving the thrill of the Kawasaki ER-5 (which i love!! for some reason) again!
That hasn't stopped me buying a bike though.
I've saved for 8 months of 2008 for one and i've got one. I was tempted by the Honda Hornet, the Bandit (as you do) and the Fazer, but as you might've guessed, i ended up with an SV650 S. I like both versions but i opted for the faired one because i can mod it more? I guess that's the reason. (i won't disclose the price because i paid over the odds for a dealer - i wanted the protection being a first time buyer)
My SV is a 2000 W reg with 30k miles and no damage, and an aftermarket 'scorpion' can, which sounds pretty good to me, even with the baffle.
At the moment i'm having to leave my SV outside, which is upsetting, but bearable with a decent cover and a padlock, until i pass my test which is this month. (any tips on what else i should do when leaving it outside would be appreciated)
During the coming months i would like to add to my SV with lower fairings and heated grips amongst other things, which is basically going against one of the reasons i wanted a bike in the first place, to save money.
I have a feeling i'm going to be a poor boy...
Anyways nice to meet you all, my name's Clark <got over the superman jokes a while ago :P>. Hope to see you all around.

Who you doing the DAS with? doing your test at Telford or in Shrewsbury? Hurry up and gerrit passed! Rideout on Sat 4 April from Telford Services 9.30 headed for Barmouth, please come!!

Welcome!
Nice bike, I don't usually like the blue, but that has a nice deep shine to it!
Tidy!
Kwakzzr will give you plenty of tips about cleaning!

Noooo i bought my kit at Wylies, got a heck of a discount of around 15% because i am doing my lessons with Kickstart, who Wylies reccommend.
I bought the bike from DK in stoke/NUL? I went to a few places in stoke but this was the best i could see by far.
As far as i know i'm doing my test in telford but that haven't let me know yet.
Sounds good! I'd like to get my hand in with regular riding and that sounds great :)
And to Lou, i had the choice of a yellow one which i kinda like, but it had no service history and was the same price, (half as many miles), or this one. I like the blue but i need the lower fairings, AAARGH! Love it still tho.

pah its all roomers
A colour is just a colour at the end of the day! It's what model you buy and how you enjoy it that's important.
(I can talk, my dealer hunted the country to get me the last green triumph that was in stock!! And I was gutted that the only DRZ left was blue not yellow!!)

Ed i'm a pro on roundabouts ;) haha, nah i know what you mean, they're crazy but i've avoided trench. That's hard enough in a car, i'm hoping they'll forget it exists and go to Hertfordshire or something instead.
Lou i like the sound of that Triumph. There was a 950cc green one in Church Stretton and i almost cried when i saw it up on autotrader because i knew i didn't have the money for it. I don't care if i'm a first timer i wanted itttttt.
Colour does matter doesn't it :p
I do know a few people who can outdrink their toilets but i'm ok with a couple or six, i won't dare try and out-do people. I'm not your typical twenteenager i guess.

Haha! Thanks for your optimism! Appreciated, hello to you!
Thanks Foxy, i guess you were pleased with the service you got seeing as you didn't add, 'the *******s charged me 400 quid for parts when i didn't ask for them' as some people seem to do :p
I'm amazed at the amount of responses i've got :takeabow: it's crazy, thanks so much!

I bought my bike over the phone. I had scoured the UK for one and they had the last one apparently and in black which I was pleased about. They delivered it to me near Bath free of charge too, so no, no complaints from me :D and there were very few parts available for the Ninja :(. However, I have most that I want now :D, only the Yoshi to go ;)

Yes it is pretty upright, but the riding position is comfortable.
When I was on the Yam YZF R125 the riding position wasn't as upright but I find the position on the Ninja much better.

Nah i didn't mean that i'm surprised at the amount of chat, it's great :p
To be honest i don't think i've heard many standard cans which sound anything other than average, i'd have to fit an aftermarket one straight away, but new bikes are a way away at the mo ^.^

Clean it thoroughly and coat it with ACF-50 (NOT BRAKE DISCS, CALIPERS, LEVERS, FOOT RESTS OR GRIPS, it leaves a coating and this isn't the best for grip!), use an Oxford Stormex or Held bike cover (waterproof, heatproof and padded), Disc lock (Motrax Vishas or a Luma one), decent chain (Almax chain with a Luma lock) and a strap to go around the cover to stop it puffing up in the wind and pulling your bike over!

I'm surprised with the amount of replies given that your not female, when a female introduces themselves the posts mount very quickly!!
The K8 gixer and the K5 on CBR600RR standard exhausts both sound great however although the CBR exhaust looks ok, the gixer exhaust looks like a crime!

Well it's already got a scorpion one which sounds okaaaay, (only heard it in the showroom) i'm gonna ride it about and see what it sounds like.
I've been looking through ride magazine and all over these forums for alternatives though. It's not a top priority :p
Have you got a recommendation?
Have you got a recommendation?
if its not loud enough............. stubby the scorpion
Thingus
03-01-09, 06:08 PM
Mmm, don't really like the look though.
It's not about loud really, it's just the noise it makes.
Great thing about bikes in my opinion is you don't have to worry about looking like a **** in a corsa sounding like an Aston V8, so there's a huge range to choose from.
With my limited knowledge, I think you're fine with what you have. The sound of the Scorpion is definitely better than the standard . As you say changing it is not a top priority at the moment, just enjoy your bike when you get it :D
Thingus
03-01-09, 06:15 PM
:D sure will! As long as i pass my test i'll be riding without a care for the next couple of months at least so no worries.
