View Full Version : Just pulled a muscle in my back whilst pushing the bike on pebbles/gravel... ADVICE HELP

took my bike for a 10 min ride to tickle the internals and circulate the oil, fill up with fresh fuel and put some air in the tyres. I've just got back and decided to put the bike in the back garden instead of back in the garage since I was going to be in and out.
I had my left hand on the left handle bar and my right hand on the main seat (due to seat cowl and no grab rail) - done it hundreds of times when moving the bike around but this one time, the pebbles gave a bit of resistance so I pushed harder and the bike finally moved but something pulled in my back.
It's definitely muscular since it hurts when I move my extend my right arm horizontally outwards and if I bend over just a couple of degrees, it twinges like feck (so not like a slipped/ripped/popped disc thingy). I've whacked an ibuprofen down but was wondering, am I best carrying on moving about doing my best (instead of going stiff and making it even more painful) OR am I best off resting it for the day and seeing how it feels tomorrow?
Any advice plz :( ****s sake.

Don't rest completely or it will seize up. Don't use heat/hot baths either- an ice pack works best, or some freezing spray.
Take as much ibuprofen as you can but make sure and eat while taking them or your stomach will complain.

If you get that again, go for a twisty back road ride on the bike. It really sorts by back out when it's sore. Usually if mine is sore is the same thing, muscles in knots, the small movements you make constantly on the bike seems to straighten everything out again after a couple of hours.

For f##ks sake
Heat cream is a real good relief for muscular pain. You will need someone to rub it into your back for you, because you obviously can't do it yourself.

No heat ice for the first couple of days to minimize inflamation, only use heat if you are going to exercise it then ice post exercise again. Keep moving, keeps the blood flowing and allows healing, lying down to it only makes it worse. If it persists either a chiropractor or physio, stay away from gp

Gel ice packs. (pharmacy). You can get them below freezing but still supple to mould around.
Take care mind, I freeze burnt myself with one last year, its not nice.

Wrapping it in a tea towel will stop that happening...

It was in the little pillow that it comes with, think I just had it too cold and against me for too long, 10 mins I was told, but it was there until it warmed up..

all sorted now everyone... I'm had as feck :D
nah vicky really sorted me out by basically standing on it and using the ball of her foot = me absolutely fine within about 6 hours. It really hurt though, I'l be using the 2x4ft sheet of plywood ontop of the gravel from now on - not sure why i didn't bother yesterday

What's your point here? You'll get there some time homey....
I did this last year getting it off the centre stand. Hurts like hell and some simple advice is all that is required, not some snide pointless comment.
Hope you feel better soon. keep it moving worked for me, but gentle mind....

I think it was something along the lines of him being a northern fairy.
So I assume YC was saying FFS, man up!
Could be wrong though

What's my point? None really.
Simple advice, well I could give some, but from experience the only advice I could give would involve half a litre of scotch. Which does provide temporary relief, but is pretty counter-productive. So I decided not to.
My comment was a tongue in cheek one, because last time paul was supposed to be coming over to have fork springs and a new shock fitted, his estate agents decided to be a bunch of w4nkers so it didn't happen, hence my sarcastically exasperated comment.
So, since there was no snideness intended, no offence intended or taken, could you please un-knot your little panties and leave it at that.

Would be a shame if his springs and shock were to find their way into someone else's bike wouldn't it :-dd

Not mine, they are pointy specific. And a GSXR front end somehow fell onto my bike when I wasn't concentrating.

Damn, you should really pay more attention! Never know... they might all of a sudden morph into curvy fork springs and fall into a different curvy! :)

Well it's icy out.. would be awful if my bike was to slide all the way along the M1 up to Halifax after a lowside in Woking

nb: If YC ever says anything which sounds offensive in any of my posts, it's usually not  I knew exactly what he was getting at as soon as I read it lol. As for the estate agents, still a bit sore from that (more so than my back) but I don't really make a point of thinking or talking about it. Cnuts.
