First crash of the year? Is it me? I'd better not have wasted my time here...

Just had an embarassing noob-crash, total case of not having my riding head quite switched on. I'd been at Tescos and just got back on the bike, rode about 30 metres when a car started to pull out of a parking space. Just a wee bit too much brake and down I go at maybe 10mph, stone cold tyres and slithery car park plus poor braking :( It wasn't a total brake grab, just too much for the circumstances. The annoying thing is, the feller in the car stopped in the other lane, so as it turns out I didn't need to brake at all. Right thing to do, mind, but it would really have gone better if I'd not ballsed it up! He was really apologetic but I just held my hand up, not really his fault at all, he sort of set up the crash but I did the crashing.

Hardly any damage, motosliders and the valter moto rearset kept the tank, plastics etc clear of the ground so it's just a ground down slider, mirror, clutch lever and bar end. Luckily I was wearing my spare helmet, an older Condor instead of my nice Astro-R, as I pasted one side of it. Not a bruise or ache on me though.

Ah well. Roll on 2010!

Glad you're OK

Unlucky :( Very easily done, especially in this weather
Glad your ok and the bike is relatively ok

I thought rearsets would lift the bottom side of the bike up and make it more likely for the tank to scrape?

Oh Northy:(

Glad you are ok and the damage isn't too severe.

On the bright side, I reckon you are the first, so you haven't wasted your effort;)

Any spill you get up and walk away from is a good one, so dont beat yourself up over it. I think you probably win, although I'm not sure what the prize should be...anyone?!

Wooo!

Yeah, but with the bungs as well it sits on its side quite happily with either the swingarm bung or a handlebar as the third support, keeps all the expensive bits up. Or that's the plan at least, last time the footpeg just broke off. I still don't rate the valter motos at all but they did their job this time.

THe downside is that the bike slides for miiiiiiles, so it's more likely to hit something else. But I was lucky and it went right up the road instead of into a parked car. It's better to be lucky than good!

Hard lines Northy, any unsalted surface has been like an ice rink all week! At least you didn't break any bones. Bike doesn't sound too bad.

D'oh!

Not impressed with rearsets so far as crash protection, mine just bent in a little trip down the ice.

TBH it was just wet, not a trace of ice or gravel or oil or any of the usual excuses

Er, I mean, there was DIESEL!
