View Full Version : Pinlock, Clear, Dark or Yellow???
I have an X-Lite 601 helmet which thanks to global warming is constantly getting steamed up. I have been reccomended to get a pinlock insert for it (the pins are already on the visor) so a quick search took me here

Not sure which colour to get, the dark one would be handy but I assume this would be illegal at night time. Anyone used the Yellow one and know what difference it makes (other than make everyone look like The Simpsons:rolleyes:)
BTW is that a good proce on that site or does anyone know of one cheaper.

I have a clear Pinlock fitted to both my clear and dark visors, never needed a tinted Pinlock. The yellow Pinlock is aimed for use in poor light conditions, they do claim they are for "track use only" but as they are fitted inside the visor they are legal in the UK (common sense and police discretion would suggest you don't use tinted at night).

Dark is pretty useless at this time of year and I wouldn't get a dark pinlock anyway - you still have a clear border around it.
I run with a yellow pinlock at all times - no problems at night, in fact it does help a bit as it tones down oncoming headlights a bit.
I even put a yellow one with a dark visor.
Only real wierdness is that LED traffic lights use a green that when viewed through a yellow pinlock is blue - normal traffic lights are just a different green from normal.
I have a yellow pinlock visor too. I also wear it at all times. I have to say though. If you are using it on unlit roads you will need good headlights. The visor darkens significantly and not only dulls the on coming headlights but will also dull yours, so you wont be able to see as far in front.

What he said.
i had a yellow pinlock and was not fussy on it, i now have a clear one which is great
but im waiting to get a hyperopticks one
i might give the yellow one another go though
Cheers guys, think i'm just gonna stick with the clear visor. I am colour blind enough as it is I don't think I need any funny coloured tinits making it worse.
i have a clear and a dark one as im cheap and didnt want to spend nearly £50 on a tinted visor, it seems to do the job well so no complaints from either

I've got the yellow pinlock now, it's wierd but very usefull, at night it's ace, eliminates glare from oncoming traffic and gives you a much better view.
Makes your headlight look dim, but with a HID lamp it's no big deal :-P
