Had my SV 650s a couple of weeks now and no matter how much i fiddle with them all I can see in the mirrors are my shoulders.:(

This is the first bike I have owned (apart from a TSX 50 when I was 16) so I have nothing else to compare it to but I can't beleive Suzuki would put mirrors on a bike which quite obviously are not fit for purpose.

Am I doing something wrong or are they just rubbish. Was thinking of getting some of these. Are they worth it?

Maybe you've just got really big shoulders?

Maybe it's the 80's style shoulder pads I wear when riding :D

This is a pretty common complaint TBH. Especially on pointies, but curvies do also suffer from it (curvies have a slightly better mirror 'stalk' so there's more manoverability to it).

Fit the mirror extenders from Chewy (I think most pointy owners on here have them now!). They're very simple to fit, it took me something like 10 mins in the work carpark in the rain, with the toolkit that came with the bike.

I find they don't completely aleviate the problem, but they certainly help a lot. My mirrors are set for normal riding anyway (quite upright for me), and when I'm hooning, all I can see in the mirrors is sky because I'm tucked down. So being careful about positioning my arms when riding normally is no big deal for me.

+1 on what Baph said, Chewy's extenders are OK, but don't completely fix the issue.

Look for 2nd hand as they're not cheap for what they are.

Cheers for the advice, I'll order some spacers. Can't believe when they designed the bike though somone didn't say "hang on them mirrors are about as much use as tits on a fish"

Don't forget that the SV is made by a japanese manufacturer, who would predomenantly design for a japanese audience.

Japanese folk are generally smaller/thinner than us Euro-crats. :)

bike mirrors are never great.

bike mirrors are never great.

I'm sure the ones on my TSX were okay but then that has motorcross style bars and I wasn't used to a car then.

Plus when you top speed is less than 30mph you don't really want to know what great jams you have caused behind you

I wonder if anyone has invented a rear view camera type thing?

Throw the mirrors away, they weigh too much, cause drag which slows you down and what's behind you should be receeding at a great rate of knots so what's the point of looking at it.

:D

A bit like this (http://thekneeslider.com/archives/2005/11/21/reevu-rearview-motorcycle-helmet/) you mean?

LOL, that looks pretty lame. I was thinking more if a disaply behind the screen or attached to the handlebars. A head up display beamed straight into your visor would be even better.

Give Dragons Den a call methinks :D

You can get kits for cars which have a CCTV camera & small screen. Easily modifyable to put on the bike. But then you'd have to look down at it & take your eyes off the road. :)

just do a life saver and look behind you, instant saving in the credit crunch.

You have to take your eyes off the road to look in the mirrors anyway.

If the screen was mounted in the same place as the mirrors then this wouldn't be an issue.

(logs onto ebay then rummages around for the electrical tape)

With bad mirrors I just move my elbow out of the way? It's cheaper!

My Pointy mirrors are perfectly fine for me thanks.* I can't get shortners from Chewy, so this way round is much better :)

* if my elbows are in the way I can move them in. Don't understand how your sholders can be in the way ? :???:

I can find a happy medium after some adjusting, just makes the lifesavers more important IMO.

Another bonus is that when my bike went down on Monday , the Mirror helped keep the fairing nose cone away from the ground as well , Chewy`s extenders helped along with crash bungs to keep the bike off the deck .

Got my extenders yesterday and fitted them, they don't make a huge amount of difference but they are definitely worth it.
