View Full Version : Brake pedal return spring.
Hey folks.. second time now the return spring on my rear brake pedal has gone missing..aye just up and sprung off.. I can see the two holes where the ends of the spring must go in..but just not sure which way it goes as the coil on the spring is closer to one end than the other. Can someone do me a favour and have a look at the which way the spring goes on a K6? Anyone else had this problem?

I've been riding mine without the spring for months. Sometimes the rear brake light switch sticks, but pulling the lever up with your foot is a good cure for this. :)
Stupid cost for the OEM spring IIRC.
I paid only 2 quid for the spring (ordered it through saltire) and also have been riding around without it for a couple of months but lets face it..easier and safer to have the brake come off automatically. ;)

The brake light generally does turn off automatically. :)
And £2 for a diddly little spring?!?! Like I said, expensive.

Sorry Kwak, I know my K6 had one too, and it's now missing. I've talked to others that have had the same issue with K6's, possibly quite a common fault.

i know cuz's bikes never had one, hes never complained that its been a problem either.
all that i can see its there for is to rip your fingers open whilst cleaning round the back of the footpeg area :)

K5s definitely have one and I remember puzzling over the two holes. From recollection you attach the springy bit to the hole closest the axle but I'm just of out for a ciggy so I'll check.
EDIT:
Ok, hydraulic pumpy bit (actuator?) goes to the hole nearest the axle (behind the axle), the springy bit goes on the little peg that sticks in toward the bike perpendicular to the lever arm and parallel to the foot lever that sits in front of the axle.

If the attachment thingy has worked, first off, apologies for crappy quality. Spring thingy is just about visible, it lives behind the plate hanging off the little peg attached to the lever arm.

Bump.
One of the things my bike failed its MOT on was the brake light switch not activating properly. I have managed to get it turning on ok when the pedal is pressed, but it isn't returning. On searching, I have found that maybe there should be a return spring (k3 model) which appears to be missing from my bike.
My problem is - I cannot find the part anywhere online. Does anybody have one or know of where I can get one? Seems a shame to be missing out on all this siunny weather sitting in my cage when I could be out there on 2 wheels if it wasn't for this one little thing!
Thanks in advance,

On my K6 and mikerj K5 the brake return spring is actually behind the support plate, not below the pedal (to frame) as shown on the K3 manual or curveys. It is pretty much parallel and next to the rear brake light switch spring. So if the pedal returns and you can't see the spring, then it's probably behind the plate.
