Well I like my red wines, I've enjoyed watching James and Oz's Big American Wine Adventure this weekend on DVD and I've been doing a little tasting to try and educate my self further.
Normally I buy Spanish wine, I enjoy the Riojas, but I felt it was time to go back to basics, so went and bought myself a Rhone red and a Rousillon red to try and compare, just finishing off the Rousillon this evening in the name of science ;) The Rhone red was a little nicer out of the bottle, heavier and smoother but I found the Rousillon had a longer and more complex after taste, still to work out how to describe all the flavours etc.
So any other wine fans/enthusiasts or buffs on here?
What was the last bottle that you enjoyed?
What would you recommend? Anything from red to white, from 2 quid to more than a monthly wage packet.
Am I the only .org wine fan on here?

For the last 2 years I've holidayed in the Ardeche region of France. I've brought home as much wine as I can fit into an Alfa Romeo 156 Sportwagon, (which is a lot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!).
I find Ardeche reds a bit more robust than other Rhone reds, not as well known but very nice all the same. Not as easy to find in the UK, at least none in "normal" shops.
I worked my way through most of my stash of Pomerol, Paulliac and Chateauneuf-du-Pape over Christmas. Of the bunch, the best by far was a 99 Pomerol - can't remember the chateau but it was absolutely gorgeous and far better than the 18 euros or so it cost me in Calais.
Come to think of it, the last bottle I enjoyed was a 2004 C-d-P at Langan's last week. Amazingly good and only 33 quid!
Wine. I love it. A bit too much. Unless it's Sauvignon Blanc - ugh.

The Mosel is only 3 hours away so I quite like their white wines. Im no expert but Piesporter tastes good and some of the other local whites.

I like a good Australian especially from the Barossa Valley region. I have ventured into the Chile region at times especially when it on offer:)
Quite like Shiraz and Merlot
My sister says the bigger the dimple on the bottom of the bottle the better the wine - it not failed me yet but you get some odd looks when comparin dimple sizes in a well known supermarket!!!!

Well the wine I'm just finishing has a pimple at the top of its dimple, is that good or bad?
Two dimples?
It's a witch. Burn it.

Too late I've finished it. 2004 Damaine Sarda-Mallet Reserve, a Roussillon and not half bad, quite enjoyed it really.
Im more a white wine drinker, however I am getting more and more into red each time I drink it.
For the whites, like something that is fairly dry and not too heavy. I find South American and South African wines are generally very heavily bodied while European wines, tend to be much lighter. Personally I like an Italian white, Pinot Grigio or Soave.

I drink Red mostly, I cannot now abide white...
We have chosen Casellero Del Diablo Merlot for the wedding, and I have a wine tasting session sometime this spring at a local vineyard...
Its Chillian Red And I love every bit..
i drink mostly red i like australian shiraz or cabernet sauvignon, i hardly drink french red wines but when i do i choose Chateau neuf du pape. I like Casellero Del Diablo Cab sav.
i do drink white but it has to be ice cold and i like sancerre and viogner
i love a drop of red.
best value are (all imho of course) the south american wines. good grapes but with cheaper labour and bottling means the prices aren't as high for an equal quality wine from france or australia for example.
i do like a Faustino Riocha however. The grand Reserva 1, 1996. Very smooth
Whites are dull as dishwater compared to a decent red and for those France is where it's at, every time.

I've never got into reds. My favourite wine is Gewurztraminer, a very aromatic white wine. The best ones come from Alsace and are always in German-style bottles.
Jabba's white wine tip:
Try drinking a decent Reisling served at room temp
Goes against the grain (no pun intended) a bit to drink white wine anything other than chilled but this is worth trying. The flavours and overall "nose" can be marvellous.
Jabba's red wine tips:
Tesco sell a really nice Cote du Rhone (look for the black label). Good price too.
The Fairtrade Chillean Cabernet's are all good.
Mainly drink Aussie Shiraz, Cabernet and Merlots. Chateau Neuf du Pape is a treat.

Had a little Port earlier on in the week, just about counts for this thread! Fonesca Bin No 27 if that makes any sense? It was a Christmas present that I enjoyed with a little Stilton, I found it quite a sweet Port though, but nice.
Ive got myself a bottle of Port for Christmas, plus a selection of cheeses in wax. Havent got around to eating and drinking it yet, but will sit down one evening for it. I also got a small port set with a selection of ports.

Well on the Lindemans Bin 65 Chardonnay, quite smooth and creamy and went well with my bacon and mushroom risotto (I used cheap wine in the risotto). Not a white fan but this is quite enjoyable with a bit of body for a white...
Ive no idea what I just drank, but there was plenty of it. I just kept on asking for more.
