Well had Rictus round for a visit, went out with him to have a look at the damage to my SV.
On getting to my garage I notice that it isnt locked, so think that I must have closed the door with the lock inside - has happened before but very rarely.
Then when looking for the lock on the shelf where it would be I notice my Lid is missing, as are my gloves, but no sign of the lock.
I check to see if the lock is hanging on the hasp, and discover the hasp broken, an Rictus spots that the padlock is on the ground.
So basically they kicked the lock off the hasp and nicked my lid and gloves.
So NOT happy.
No sign of the cops - guess it will be tomorrow evening before they make it.
Have re-locked the garage, heres hoping they dont come back and do it again......

Might be worth getting one of those cheapy movement sensing alarms to put in your garage. It's a deterrent if nothing else and you might hear it if you garage is by your house?

Might just do that - OR.....
I have one of those cheapish bike alarms that I never fitted - could wire that up to the back of the door.

Indeed as Dave said I was there at the discovery, most annoying and frustrating no doubt, almost appears breaking in for the sake of it and just taling what was nearest the door.

My suggestion at the time as well funnily enough.

Sorry to hear about the break in. If I were you I'd add as many security measures as you can. Better safe than sorry.
Bugger! Maybe the local Chavs needed a new lid and had seen you park before?
You could always use a nice loud alarm... (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/12G-Alarm-Mine-Burgular-Alarm-Trip-Wire_W0QQitemZ370138902456QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Sp ortingGoods_Hunting_ShootingSports_ET?hash=item370 138902456&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1301%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C 240%3A1318)

Thats what Sudoxes' link is to - an ebay auction for one.
Have seen that Maplins do a keypad entry battery powered one for Ģ15, and Vixis has a Maplins (which supposedly has stock) just round the corner from her work.
Opportunist smackhead drug related thievery. They were too dim to work out how to nick the bike.
Bad luck old bean.

Sorry to hear that.
Will your insurance replace them?
I never keep my lid and gloves in my garage mainly as in the winter it gets a little cold and also it's in a seperate block?

+1. That's what it is most likely, I suffered the same. They go for the garage rather than house as they're less likely to encounter confrontation and they know that the courts are much more lenient when it comes to breaking into outbuildings than people's homes.
Sorry to hear about this. My advice would be to go overboard on security, it's worth it for being able to sleep soundly at night.
At least it wasnt your bike. Helmet and gloves should be covered by the houses contents insurance?
That's bad to hear, I thought your gated community would have been quite secure?

Some of the lighting was out, so that area was VERY dark.
That area also is a boundary with some council owned land that is much more accessible.
Soory to hear about this.
I'm of the opinion that if someone enters your property uninvited to steal or harm, then they give up any rights to life from the moment they enter the property.

Letter to the mgt company then hold them responsible - get your excess back esp. if it's several lights

Sorry to hear about this mate, I absolutely hate scum like this - I haven't been able to sleep without worrying since the 600 went walkies over a year ago now...despite having a garage and 'other' security now!

I believe the legal term (when reporting it) is "I was afraid for my life", as far as I'm aware the only legal excuse for doing another harm.....:-D
Cheers Mark.
still think the idea of "accidently" wiring the door up with something zappy works for me, the opportunist ****eheads.

You just want to see SK electrocuted when he forgets to disarm it ;)
Bad news though, here's hoping that everything gets sorted out quickly and they don't come back.

My dog agrees. You also give up the right not to be covered in slobber regardless of intention. :D

Utter, Utter.....
Anyway thats just sucks and I don't see what use they have for that, however bike and tools are still there.
My suggestion mate is bigger stronger locks, you can get garage defenders which prevent the door being opened. The facts are that if you have been done over once, they will back. Thats my experince from going to repeat victims.
Having read some commets, reasonable force people.
Anything I can help with, you know where to find me.

Lmao, our dog hasn't really had a chance to prove his macho doggieness to intruders and although he goes out of his way to bark at anyone who comes to the door we doubt he'd actually do much more than lick the offender to death should he be put to the test
Could have been worse, they may have stolen you Apple mac and push bike ;)
Sorry to hear of your loss Dave.
I bought garage locks off Muffles & never did anything with them if you want to buy them?

I suggest chaining the bike to something solid/built into the garage. It's not unknown for thieves to nick your lid, hence rendering you unable to ride the bike elsewhere, then coming back and taking the bike at a later date.
The bike may be damaged, but i'd imagine the scrotes will settle for anything!

Rotten news mate :( Good security is well worth it, to be honest it does sound like your lock was almost inviting trouble, generally with bikes you've got to watch out for the pros but opportunists will break into anything if it's easy enough, just on the off side. Ground anchor might be a good idea for the bike, for that matter, they obviously weren't prepared to find a bike to nick or it'd be gone too.
(I say all this, my garage security is a complete joke but at least it looks secure)
We have two cars - I park one in front of the garage door so opening it is a physical impossibility.
oh Dave thatīs rotten luck!!!
I hope your insurance sorts you out quickly. Have you got a spare lid in the mean time, or does that mean going and forking out for another one straight away?

1st point - the garage is rented - so any mods are limited, although I have informed the owner and asked that they make it more secure.
I am not, however adverse to the idea of adding more bolts to the door.
There is now an alarm in the garage - and I will be looking at other alarm options too, I have the specs for building something that will use RFID to arm and disarm, and be able to call me on my mobile if there is an issue......
