I've a friend who is a medical student and he saw something similar come into A&E, apparently the worst bit was trying to get what was left of his jogging bottoms (seriously) out of his leg as it had all got mangled into one bloody nike mess.

One or two mates of mine who've had non-serious offs in less than adequate kit have told me stories that make sure I won't go out without my proper kit on.

Their road rash was scrubbed at with bristled brushes and disinfected water to get all the road grit and dirt out...

"I'm sorry, that doesn't hurt enough. Would you mind throwing a bit of salt on it while you're at it?"

i can't understand this - in summer i go out with the leathers on etc and i see the kids with shorts and t-shirts on bikes.

I just can't understand this, falling off at 30mph removes skin, it's that simple.

i have huge skin grafts from my youth (& motorbikes, was wearing jeans) - people, always wear leathers.

Us young ones don't understand it till we see or experience it.

I fell off, only a grazzed knee but my jeans saved a lot of skin & tissue on my knee before hitting a six foot wall. Ever since I've worn protected gear as theres only one of you

I was talking to two kids on mopeds, filling up at a petrol station,
Both were wearing shorts, tee-shirts and no gloves !!!!!!!
And there’s me in my leathers, ok sweating but safe.
I tried to explain, but its like “ it’s a hot day “….
They could not / would not see why I’m wearing leathers..
I guess accidents and road rash happen to other people….
Ah the youth of today…

Yea, proper kit is important, even when pootling down to the shops.

See bigapes thread if you havn't already on why wearing proper kit is very, very important.

Pah. I had that 15 years ago after an off.

I get tired of listening to the safety nazis. People should wear whatever the hell they want to wear and simply take the consequences as they come.

For the past few years my work has taken me to Denmark many times. Now over there a new bike cost 3 times what it does in the uk (local vehicle tax) so even a SV650 is about 15 grand!!!!!

Therefore, bikes are not too common but the ones that are around are usually riden by weathly or older people (i.e. with a few pennies in the bank). But the vast majority never wear gloves. They will wear all the expensive leathers/helmets etc...but not the gloves. I have tried to tell them that in an off what part of your body are you going to try and get to the ground first....but they just look at me in a strange way.

You would of thought that with all the good looking girls there would want to keep there hands in perfect 'touching' order:D

no, they dont make cows big enough.

I do however always wear full textiles with ce approved armour, knox back protector, proper gloves an boots. I've spent enough time in hospital to do everything i can not to want to go back.
