View Full Version : wheel spin thing (for rotating wheel)
hey
has anyone got one of those wheel spin devices? i am looking to get one insteadd of a stand to do chain stuff and clean wheel etc. reason being is i live on 10th floor flat and can'tr be bothered to take a stand downstairs all the time plus it is small enough to take down my old birds house where i go to clean the bike. seen one for 35 notes which seems good value.
any help that isn't 'get an abba stand you moron' appreciated.
You mean a paddock stand? If so I use a micron one would recommend the bobbin kit for it as a feel it's safer can't fault it easy to get on and off by urself hth

No, this is a small block with bearings/rollers in it. You stick the back wheel on it and it lets you spin the rear wheel without it sticking to the floor. Think of a dyno without the measuring bit. :)
Some even let you spin the back end of the bike around to turn the whole bike through 180 degrees.

fair enough ignore me then
any good or are they a pain to use? or just simply rubbish?
was gonna leave a stand at ma's house but also gets tiresome lubing the chain by moving it a bit at a time. figured that this wheel bearing thing may be a good comprimise. anyone had any experience. if they are really poop then will have to save for abba stand.
...but also gets tiresome lubing the chain by moving it a bit at a time.
How would this be any different?
A mate has the ball bearing one and he uses it weekly for the same reason as you. Its no substitute for a paddock satnd but does what it says on the tin.
meant by moving the bike a bit at a time to lube the chain.
yeah so long as it works ok i think it will be purchased. thanks for you help.
I actually find its not hard at all to spin the rear wheel by hand. Involves pushing the bike a little against its side-stand. My driveway is all loose stones too so that makes it easier.
If you can do this, you don't need any special gadgets at all.
yeah i have seen it done but i have a real dodgy wrist (doesn't help they are the diameter of a childs also) so haven't really had the courage to give it a blast.

+1
for cleaning i just use a bit of 2x4 under the swing arm, to raise the back wheel off the floor

I have a tommy jack...just a little set of legs to left the back wheel when it's the sidestand.

I find I tend to set it up and just lean the bike and slot it in place rather than use it to lift the bike.

Wouldn't bother with one of those wheel spin products, get yourself a paddock stand as it will be much more use in the future for a variety of jobs.

I have one, but the thing I found was it rusts up in a flash (making it useless as it won't spin) so make sure you clean and dry it after use. Also it isn't the most stable thing in the world so be really careful when scrubbing hard on the inside of the tyre whilst its on it. Personally I replaced it with a rear stand a few months after, but as I can see that isn't an option, the spinney wheel ball bearing thing is good enough!

I have one of these. It's brand new - got it for Christmas, but I have a Scotoiler, so I don't use it.
£25 delivered - It's very heavy, so postage will be high.
Let me know if you're interested.
