More help needed please Org!

I'm arranging my mates Stag Weekend and we're heading for Cardiff.

I'll be looking for any tips/advice on pubs/strippers etc later, but could anyone suggest a hotel that's:

a) likely to take 30ish drunken tw&ts in kilts
b) central as possible
c) slightly less scabby than the travelodge in St Mary Street which is the fallback option
d) David Dickinson - cheap as cheaps?

Cheers!

JM

There's a new Travelodge in Cardiff Bay which would be a better fallback, only finished building it last month. The more central the price goes up. Cardiff is used to drunken Scots!

How far's Cardiff Bay from the main action? or IS it the main action? I've only heard of St Mary Street...

Hovis, why Cardiff or why am I arranging it?

No advice on particular hotels as I'm local and hence don't stay there, there are quite a few hotels further out that are cheaper though. With 30 of you, you'll be better off staying further out and pre-booking two 15 seater taxi minibuses IMO. The saving on hotel costs will probably pay for the taxis several times over.

As to the night out:Revolution vodka bar opposite the castle is crammed with skirt (or will be when you lot get in there ;)) and they're pretty relaxed about large groups of lads, so long as you're dressed reasonably smartly. Not too pricey, but be aware that the "vodka" is that 20% nonsense if you go for any of the flavoured malarky. You've got the fantasy lounge up St. Mary's Street for strippers. I've not been there, but it's supposed to be decent.

Cardiff bay is a bit far to walk, but cheap enough for taxis. I think you'll be dissappointed if you spend the whole evening there rather than St. Mary street. I'd start over the bay for the food and the more civilised part of the evening (although the brewery quarter is now quite good in this respect), then head into town for the real carnage.

Thanks folks - the Travel lodge at the Bay actually works out a wee bit more as the rooms only sleep 2 (unless we get everyone properly p155ed and they share double beds!) The one on St Mary Street looks bang in the middle of the action but it looks like a proper skitter pit of a place!! I've got a group of everything from 21 year old lads that'll sleep in a hedge if needs be, to 50+ uncles that'll be looking for a bit more comfort.

BAH How did I end up with this job!?!

How far's Cardiff Bay from the main action?

1 mile from the City Centre, easily walkable/crawlable.

The postcode will be CF10 if your doing a search on travelodge website.

Cardiff Bay has good selection of bars and places to eat, but maybe pricey.

You havent said when, it might be worth checking this out

If you choose a busy weekend you may find getting a hotel that will take all of you a problem.

8th-10th May we're going, and I've just noticed there's a Rugby match on the 9th at the Millenium Stadium... BONUS!!! That'd be awesome if we can get into that!

Swalec Cup final?

Oh, I've walked it before. It just takes a long time to get from the waterfront of the bay (which is the best bit) to the Castle end of St. Marys and is boring walk. I suppose if it's just lads it's doable; It's women in their silly shoes that usually makes us need to get a taxi. :D

The etap is v cheap and central and has a cheap carpark. Stayed there in December, not the plushest of places but fine for somewhere to crash after a few bevvies.

I agree with sarah, the Etap is ideal for that type of thing. It gets used by my collegues all the time for work nights out, three to a room for £35 is fab! (and it's central).

Well, ended up taking the easy option and booked into the St Mary St Travelodge.

Karting's booked for the Saturday morning, and waiting to hear back from the Millenium Stadium about the Rugby Cup Final on Sat 9th.

Next question, any suggestions / recommendations / DON'T go to "Pub/Club/Titty Bar" for %*£* Sake?

I'll be needing to arrange:

-- At least one club to head to, preferably within staggering distance of the hotel, and that will be Ok with a crowd our size coming in, not especially worried about class/genre (it's a stag night!?!) but preferably somewhere that we'll not get stabbed would be nice.

Any ideas for eating of an evening? Safe bets would be Italian/Pizzeria, Steak Houses etc?

Oh, and there's of course, the obvious question of strippers / lap dancing bars etc to be tacked too.

All suggestions welcome!

Cheers all

JM

I went on a stag do in Cardiff last year and stayed here

http://www.wynfordhotel.co.uk/

Place is a bit cheap and cheerful and the club downstairs has to be the ruffest place I have ever been to, still it was clean, the beds were comfy and most of all it was cheap.

I can't really remember any of the places we went to we just headed into town and staggered round the bars.

Known locally as "The Parachute Club" (coz you're certain of a jump) - holds regular "Grab a Grannie" nights. Rooms used to be availble by the hour.

I wouldn't....... even on a stag weekend

The Travelodge is directly about the Walkabout bar and close to many pubs and clubs, including The Philharmonic and a couple of Weatherspoons.

Oi!! Mogs!! Do you know if "The Dog and Duck" (next door to Clwb Ifor Bach) is still open - guaranteed to see at least one stripper every Friday and Saturday night in there. At least, there was when I was a student

Is there anywhere secure in Cardiff that I could keep my bike for the weekend? I'm seriously considering riding down instead of the coach... It'd make my trip down to Folkstone on the Monday an awful lot more bearable too...

OR...

I'll be needing a couple of new tyres before I go away to France on the Monday... maybe I could get a set fitting in Cardiff and just leave the bike with the garage/fitters for the weekend whilst I get mashed?

So, failing anywhere secure that I can keep it (we're staying at the St Marys St Travelodge which I'd doubt even has a car park?) could anyone recommend a decent garage for a set of tyres for a Pan?

Your not making it easy bringing your bike. Cardiff City Centre is very difficult to park in at the moment, many car parks have been demolished to make way for the new shopping centre.

The Cardiff Bay Travelodge has secure(ish) parking, it might be worth giving them a call to see if you could use it, just hop onto the bus to get into town.

Hmmm, my other option is to get the bus with the rest of the lads, but that's from Dumfries to Cardiff on the Friday, then back up to Dumfries on the Sunday, then I'm heading down to Folkstone on the Monday morning for the EuroStar. Seems like an awful lot of miles for very little gain...

What about any half-decent bike shops in Cardiff? I'm sure that if I'm getting a set of tyres fitted they might be able to keep it until Sunday at some point?
