Try Asda - they are doing a deal at the moment for the Nikon P50. 8.1 MPixel, 3.6 optical zoom, Good quality and size screen on back + an optical viewfinder. Loads of presets and if you want to get technical its in there too. Comes with software for downloading to PC. Got mine in Halifax for £60 and a 2Gb SD card cost me a fiver on top. Good deal. That camera is physicaly tiny but is good enough for what you want.

32mb, blimey thats minute in camera terms, my camera has 50mb storage and thats 4 photos! I have a 4gb card (about £12 from Mobymemory/Ebay/etc) and thats enough for about 800 photos.

An SD card is an SD card. If your new camera takes SD cards then yes, it will fit.

I accidentally ordered 2 when I needed just one. The spare is yours.

and your not just after my home adress so you can stalk me are you?

Hell no

i just make do wiv me mobile, only 5mp but does all i need it to do!

come on who here actually views or prints images at 1920x1200 upwards? (unless ure a photographer)

u need a 24" monitor to view silly rez (which i have.....even thats too small to view 'actual size' 5mp) and god knows wot a printer would cost ya to accommodate that size or even get images printed!

the missus has a 10mp cam that jus sits in the drawer, she nicks me mobile if pics are needed, jus depends really on the type of image size your after

jus my 2p

yer and why not, advantages are ya'll always have it with you, some even have a damn good flash and zoom function. jus make sure if you get a high rez cam fone that you can add-in larger mem cards as some are quite limited memory wise (and some will only accept cards up to 'x' amount)

With all things, cameras come down to the lens, and camera phones just dont have decent lenses, even the new gen nokias with Carl Zeies lenses are not as good as a cheap digicam. I have a Sony C902 (5mp cyber shot) ok, its not bad for a snap shot, but if you want anything printable, then a proper camera is what you need.

I have a canon ixus. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Canon-IXUS-75-Digital-Camera/dp/B000NUT92W/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1233146584&sr=8-11
It take brilliant photos, nice large viewing screen. Even compared to my Nikon SLR its not bad.
You get what you pay for with cameras, and paying just over £100 is sensible if you want decent quality. Don't be confused with megapixels. My dads 10mp olympus takes quite poor images compared to the ixus.
I think you will be dissapointed with anything less than 80 quid.

wow

theres loads of $hit on this thing

quick question

regarding ISO

when taking action shots of trials bike, with my fisher price camera, i would have to guess when to press the button, but i can adjust it on this
auto, hi, 80 100 200 400 800 1600

so which is needed?

and,

its got that thing where it takes loads of pics in a row, but its a bit slow?
i think i read somthing about needing a diferant "faster" memory card for them type of shots?

fizzwheel
28-01-09, 04:07 PM
You change the ISO setting if your using a short shutter speed, taking pics at night etc etc. The bigger the ISO number the brighter the picture might appear, but you do get a grainy picture if you go to high with the ISO number.

For sports photography ISO of 200 should be OK, however what you want to be doing is using a short shutter speed as that'll capture the moving image. Does it have a shutter priority mode on it ?

Hovis I suspect you'll find that your new camera copes a little better with moving objects, if it has a "sport" mode on it try it on that first.

Heres a link for a decent explanation of what ISO means

http://www.photoxels.com/tutorial_iso.html

You'll need a fast memory card for taking multi frame shots, but TBH I never use it as it just fills my memory card up quickly and then I get fedup with going through them all to find the pics I want. I'd be inclined to try it with the card you have and see how you get on, I reckon it'll be fine for what you want

hovis
28-01-09, 04:16 PM
i will have a look at that link,

but i just tried to take a photo of a car, passing my house, at about 30mph, and got it perfect, so its going to be fine for trials

yay

Magnum

Just select auto for all the settings, thats the joy of a point and shoot.

A 'faster' memory card will not make the cameras fps (frame per second) faster. Flick through the settings and see if it's on the highest fps, most probably 2 or 3. Any other memory card will make absolutely no difference.

A faster recording memory card would only make a difference on a 7+fps SLR camera that shoots 10megapixels+ for each photo.
