Top one looks the best of those but I'd rather have a Dax Cobra.

Mmmmmmmmmm! I think I've just made a mess in my pants!
The R500 is mentally fast... think it stands for 500 bhp/ton!

Yep that's right.
My mate is currently building an MK Indy, in the exact colour as the one in your image. Not road legal yet but not far off I think.
I've never had a ride in one... thinking of hiring a caterham for a day. £150 hmmm
Paul the 6th is just embarking on a build. I'm sure he'll be along soon.
What sort of cost are you looking at to build something like the top pic?
I like the look of that MK Indy. Can you get full wet weather gear for them?
Well if you wnt something fast you're looking at a build cost of around £6k-£8k..........for something that looks like a caterham. The Dax cobra with a V8 you're looking at £15k+
ofcourse all is costs are relevant to the specs you build the car to....for example if you decide to go for racing brakes and braided lines everywhere will be a bit more expensive etc etc
you can get winter weather gear for some of them.....depends on the company but at the end of the day it's a DIY job :) you can make one!
only problem with winter is that you wouldn't use it as an everyday car as it's all fiberglass and it would be in a pretty bad state after a winter on the roads. There are people that use them though and on a Locost forum you'll find all the info you could ask for.

Yep - Barbour suit ( or modern equivalent )
The MK kit looks most cost effective. Uses parts from a Ford Sierra. The "deluxe kit" costs about £3k and comes with all the body panels, and suspension parts.
You have to source an engine, propshaft, rear diff, driveshafts, switchgear, steering column, rack, front uprights and brakes but not much else... meaning you can collect parts ad-hoc or buy an old sierra and strip it.
The MNR kit is more comprehensive and the donor parts can be bought in packs that cost about £500 a pop, so you can get a rolling chassis sorted quickly, then add the relavent bits as and when.
The Sylva R10t and MEV Sonic7 kits are more expensive £6k + engine etc. Fisher fury looks nice but the build seems to involve more fabrication. Westfield and caterham look to be the easiest to build but cost a lot more.
Going to hit the kit car shows and sit in a few :D
Hey these cars are great. When you decide what to build then post up some details. And when you come to starting it PM me and I can help with a lot of the parts that you require. Especially brakes, suspension and general interior and electrical items ok.
And yes I have built one and driven many. I am currently building a MK2 Escort RS2000 for a change.
You need to go to a few shows before shelling out, there are a lot of rip off suppliers in this industry and you can generally work them out at the shows!!!
Take a visit to the show at Newark or the show at Stonleigh both worth a look. Exeter is a reasonable kit show but its normally in November so thats a long way off. Forget the show at detling in Kent its a total waste of time. Odd really as thats my local one:-)
And haggle your a*** off cos I tell you mate the kit industry is having a clean up with the tough times so why not grab a bargain while we can eh?
went to the "racing car show" on trade day last week.Fella I know had a stand there.
His company has a custom built V8,Cateram with flappy paddle gear change and loads of carbon.,running a dry sump and a super charger.
He also does a special lotus with a custom v6.
Hoping to do a track day in the spring on Angelsea.
Pics will follow if I do
