View Full Version : Best convenience/practicality mods
Getting my Kriega US-20 for storage when I need it and eyeing up some rear set risers so that I can lower the pegs by an inch or so (i'm 6'1" and get cramp behind my knees on long rides) and have a pair of Osram Nightbreakers to upgrade the stock bulbs.
Sure there are a few other mods that will make the bike even better than it already is and thought you lot could enlighten me!

Scotoiler - reduces the amount of chain maintenance you have to do, useful if you are planning a long trip or commute
Fenda Extenda - keeps the muck off your bike
Double Bubble Screen - Reduces windblast on motorways

Helibars or similar to help hand and wrist ache on longer rides.
Yamaha FJ1200 at supposed to fit with a little modification and a lot less money.

+1 on the fenda extenda. Its a must have, otherwise the front cyclinder cuts out in wet weather
Think it's got the fenda extenda, is it the black plastic bit on the back of the fender on the front wheel? I've been alright with the wrists and hands, have had a bit of a burning crampy type thing with the palm of my hand on the throttle grip though occasionally. I know you can adjust the reach on the front brake lever but can you do the same on the clutch lever? I don't mean move the biting point, that's fine, but the distance between the lever and the grip?

Gotta be a topbox. Mine arrived today
R6 throttle
smaller sprocket on front
crach bungs
race can
fenda extenda
Crash bungs are the next thing to go on I think but I'm not sure whether to get R&G's or not as I don't want to cut the fairings.
I've got a CCC can which I'm loving at the moment so will leave that on.
I'll do a search on the R6 mod now, will the smaller sprocket affect insurance? What difference does it make?

Heli bars can help with this, but I suppose it depends on your dimensions

You've got that the wrong way round surely :???:

motosliders
R&G - OK so you don't have to cut the fairing to fit them, but you still have to replace the fairing when they fail
will the smaller sprocket affect insurance? - In theory yes, but don't be ridiculous  What difference does it make? improves acceleration by increasing the revs for a given speed so it's at the cost of top speed. talking about 500rpm per tooth I think or 5-10mph top speed

Fender extender is #1
Crash bungs
Scottoiler
Handguards ('propa uns with the big bar down the middle)
Better seat
Hotgrips
Moh powah!! I'll just keep telling myself this. I'll believe it one day.
A fixer-peg under the seat
Spare levers if you don't go for handguards
I believe sprocket is a consumable so not as important to declare to insurers.

Crash bungs aren't designed to save the lower fairings.

So did mine-what one did you go for? I got the Suzuki 38L one from Robinson's Foundry and they sent me an extra (48L) by mistake!
PowerMadds do good hand guards, proper off road kinda things..
But i emailed the uk guy, and recieved nothing back..
So ordered DL handguards, £38.. :(

Nah go for barkbusters or similar, they won't just demolish themselves.
I highsided and it landed on the top of the handguard somehow, scuffed it, did not break. Renthals did not bend either.

Crash bungs
Heated grips if you ride in winter
Crash bungs
Better screen
Comfy seat
Upgraded battery for the winter guys- never fear a cold start again
Scottoiler
Crash bungs
has anyone got pics of handguards on a pointy? Would have thought they'd look a bit odd?! I'll look into the motosliders instead if they are that much better.
Crash bungs aren't designed to save the lower fairings.
If you laid a bike down (say at rest) and the crash bung didn't break are you saying that it wouldn't keep the lower fairing off the ground? :???:
Or are you just saying that crash bungs are designed to save frame damage and if a well designed one like motoslider saved any lower or top fairing it's just a bonus?

Yes, the tyres are narrower than the lower bodywork. When you lay an fully faired SV down on its side the wheels no longer touch the ground but the lowering fairing will, you will scratch the fairing up not matter which crash bung you have fitted.

Pretty much, I never expect a crash bung to save the bodywork (that is an added bonus).

And other expensive stuff like the radiator.
You can't get home with a broken frame or no water in the rad... a bit of scratched tupperware is gonna make sod all difference. (and if it's hanging off then it's nothing some gaffer won't fix)
Indicator lenses! that's the one I forgot to ask about. Are smoked lenses illegal? Where can I get the right ones to fit a faired K5??
