View Full Version : Rim Tape... Yes or No?
Just wondering what the general opinion is here?
Was thinking about some for my bike, not 100%..
Blue K3 SVS, any suggestions?
In some instances it looks good, in most is looks terrible.

Personal taste, it suits some bikes/colours and it doesn't suit others.
Hell will freeze before I put it on my bike. Absolutely not.

I like it :D
I wouldn't remove it if the bike came from the factory with it. Do R6's come with red? I think :???:
But I wouldn't put it on - likely to be all wonky.
Possibly consider the reflective kind that is invisible in daylight if any at all. :smt102:

I really need to search before posting.. :(
If i were to try and apply it, what colour do you think i should go for?

Oh an get blue on your bike, i had a good blue match on my old pointy 650.
Ah.... got it...... wheel rims
Absolutely not. Unless you're a chav, in which case you'll be wanting the blue neon lights to go with it

NO!
apart from on our YPVS, cause its red, black and white, with black RGV wheels, and the red tape don't look too bad on them. Girths doesn't look too bad i suppose, but then his is the only pointy I almost like;)
ANy other colour bikes just look chav with it. HTH

What the f### would you want aporsche for? They are cars for estate agents, who are now all skint and their missus' are on the game.
I crashed into a porsche and told the driver he was a c##t. It was a happy day.

If you have silver wheels then silver rim tape looks good, if you have black wheels then black tape works best.

I don't need to crash into them to call them that, just shouting it randomly works for me. It's like a form of VW/Audi/Porsche Tourettes.

I had the same thought as you.... why would anyone want to put sticky tape round their lavatory bowl?
same reason why they'd stick on a pair of wheels

It's a nes from me.....depends on the bike. There's a chav risk.
No.
Looks Chavvy and crap.
Along with anodised nuts and bolts, coloured and iridium screens or headlight covers, coloured anodised brake and clutch levers, coloured anodised footrests, coloured anodised anything in fact (with the exception of gold anodised Ohlins shocks and gold anodised USD forks).

In the vast majority of cases ( > 99%) its a huge no. its never done tidy ehough, it always seems to be fluorescent green or orange, it looks crap.
But sometimes, just sometimes, it works.

anything that makes me a liitle more noticeable in the winter months is a good thing. i did mine before winter kicked in and they are already showing signs of wear. so they are just a dark night fix for me and when the warmer times come they'll have to come off.

I actually have rim tape fitted on the 800, the SRAD wheel I bought from Ebay had white reflective tape on already and the seller threw in a roll for the back wheel. I tried it on the wheel and wasn't sure what I thought, its been on ever since but I wouldn't say I would replace it if it got scuffed.

Some good veiws there just bought some gunmetal for my silver k3,not fitted it yet but looks ok next to it. Not sure what to do now though??
Stuff it it's my bike i'm putting it on!
I would say that on silver wheels, it doesnt look great as it doesnt stand out. Have a look at some examples on silver wheels to see what I mean
On black wheels, there is a definate contrast. I think it works.
No problem with rim tape here. Anodised bolts yes, but not rim tape
Were can i find examples too look at?

Doh.. There's me being a sarcastic git about basically only having rim tape if you have no taste (hence why you would pick the Porsche, say no more) and then I go and see a pic of my old bike.....

In my defense I didn't put it on.... Having said that, I didn't take it off either :smt019

Yeah, I was winding myself up, I hate the stuff but never actually got around to taking it off..
Having said that, my first bike had blue levers on to match the bike, it took me two years to buy the standard ones and fit them..

I reckon you've secretly got rim tape on your bike, but are ashamed of it, so never clean it in case a small section was to become exposed
I don't mind it on some bikes

I'd welcome them to do mine, I have no pride. Anyway let's face it it's the only time it'll ever get a clean.
