Today I was sitting first at a red light on a roundabout for about 10 seconds, when I suddenly bumped forwards about 5 inches! I turned around and there was a car jammed right up against my bike! I got off and stormed round to his window which he wound down:

Me: "Why did you hit me?!"
Him: "Sorry"
Me: "How can you hit me, I was stationary right in front of you!!?"
Him: "Sorry, I didn't see you"
Me: "But you must have been looking straight forward, you are going forward, I am there, how can you not see me!?!?!"
Him: " I don't know, sorry. Is there any damage to your bike?"

So I walked back to my bike and had a look. Everything was fine, the numberplate holder had just flexed a bit and gone back into position. Then I looked at his car. 10 inch scratch from my numberplate down the side of the wing of his new Ford Focus!

Me: "My bike is fine, but you have a massive scratch on your car "
Him: "Oh".
Me "Bye"

And I rode off . I can't believe it happened, but at least karma rebalanced itself haha.

Same thing happened to me when I was learning. Was out with instructor (i was at the back) hi viz, 4 bikes almost stationary traffic, woman in a mini bumped my rear wheel hard enough for me to let go of the handle bars and stall the bike, fortunately i managed to keep it upright. Just started it again and hurried to catch up with rest of group.
I'd actually forgotten about it until i read this.

I have to ask how he got his wing scratched if you were in front of him? I suspect you were pulling off an illegal u-turn and you REVERSED into him? How do you plea?

What you should have done is limp up to his window, tell him you were hurt and called the cops.

He deserved to have SOME serious discomfort.

Didn't see you stationary - that a Due Care and Attention right there.

That's what I wondered :smt017

I assumed that a wing is the front quarter.

Bye as he leaves the scene of an accident...

Cheers

Hmmm I would have insisted on his insurance details at the least. Hope you do not now get some claim against you come through the post.

That was exactly it, only I was on one wheel too and I ran over a cat whilst doing it

It was lights on a roundabout, so the lanes are doing 90 degree turn. I had stopped in the right-hand third of the lane, he came up behind me and bumped me. The wing of a car is on the side and also wraps around the headlights; the scratch started about 1 inch from his headlight and then proceeded round the side wing of his car. You trying to read something into it that didn't happen inspector? ;)

Happened to me waiting for a ferry in front of customs in Newcastle.

Two-up and fully loaded GSX1400 VS. New Vectra driven by a Dutch fella.

There was only going to be one winner when he ploughed into the back of me in the queue cos he could not be arsed switching his ignition on annd therefore switching his brakes on! **** wit! Missus ejected and I eventually let of my brakes!

Gouged and dented his bonnet for a good foot. No damage to us. Still threw a wobbler tho!:smt093:mrgreen:

Impressive crumple zone right enough, those Vectras.;)

even a minor shunt from behind can cause whiplash ;)

You missed out on a nice amount of beer money.

On a more serious note: Legally speaking I think you have to report things like this when damage results and leaving because your bike wasn't damaged could come back to bite you if he magically comes up with a witness saying it was somehow your fault. Granted this is unlikely but I don't trust any drivers further than I could throw them. 99% of people are just out to get what they can and f*** everyone else!!

+1. I would have exchanged details too.
A: because I would be worried my bike is bent in a way I cannot see,
and
B: because I would be concerned about the legal side, it would give me peace of mind to do it by the book.

I am clinically paranoid though. :)

I think the very least you should do is report it to the police. Get it logged and make a statement. Then tell your insurance company and get it logged with them. I don't know if this will do any good, but it can't hurt

Wow that sucks. Its people like him who injure or worse than injure bikers.
