View Full Version : Does anyone use old engine oil in their Scottoiler?
If so does the setting need changing due to different viscosity? I have one fitted but never set it (Haven't ridden bike yet properly).

I buy the oil for it , at £5 a go I don`t want to run the risk of manking my Scottoiler up and it`s cheap enough stuff as it is .
Of course all the best people use used engine oil in their Scottolier. :) & I'll bring you some for free if you promise to come to Soho
As for setting the flow - turn it up as high as you like - it's FREE
I've also got 2 bottles of Scotoil that I need to sell for £5 each

set it to prime, start the engine, once you see oil coming out the end set it to minimum, it'll give you about 1000 miles on one fill....Oh and yes that's with used engine oil on that setting it won't cover your wheel in oil, and remember you won't have to clean your chain at all.
Cheers Mark.
Cheeky! ;) I overpaid on a Scott oiler that they came with, so If I don't make a good recovery it's going to bug my Scottishness forever
minimum.
:???: in this weather  and it's free :smt102
Anyway I have black wheels :D:

Yes, always. Haven't used anything else for many years, much free-er than bought oil and works at least as well as far as I can tell.
Now we've been here before haven't we? If your chain oiler is putting oil all over your bike, it's adjusted or fitted wrongly.
much free-er than bought oil
excellent quote.
i put my last lot of scottoil in this weekend, i was going to buy some more... now perhaps not :)
I generally have my oiler set to mid-way position. i find minimum doesn't really oil enough.

Nothing wrong with used engine oil. If it was going "mank" (whatever that means - I guess it isn't good) an oiler, then I would have to question what it was doing to the motor that it came out of.

Sorry to slightly de-rail the thread but does anyone have a picture of a scottoiler in kit form? I have stripped all the road going stuff off a bike I bought for my Minitwins spares and it had one fitted. But I dont know which bits are from the scottoiler etc. It seems a shame to throw it all as someone could have it on here, for a bargain.

We might put blue ( or red in the Tropics ) oil in our Scottoiler, but what gets on the wheel & tyre is BLACK

Because rubber dust from the tyre sticks to the oil.
Old engine oil is all you need really. Doesn't matter if it goes everywhere so long as it isn't getting onto the tyre. Engine oil flings just same as scottoil.
