Mods, hope you don't mind me posting this...
OK all you lovely .Orgers in the south-west, I need your help please!
I'm planning to move to the Bristol area ASAP, but there's the minor issue of finding a job first! It's not the best climate to be moving jobs I know, but the opportunity to move down south might not come up again for a long time. So...
<cheeky mode>
Giz a job someone!
</cheeky mode>
Seriously though, if anyone knows that their company/employer is looking for staff, I would love to hear from you. Naturally I've already been using the more traditional methods of job-hunting but I figured it can't hurt to ask everywhere.
My background is technical support for security systems, which I've been doing for the past 7 years, but in that time I've been seconded to other departments at times doing admin, training new/existing staff and supervising, so I'm flexible and can easily adapt to a new role. My education goes up to A-level (I really should have carried on with University & got a degree!).
So please, pretty please, if you think you might know someone in the Bristol / Bath / Chippenham / anywhere-else-nearby area who could make use of my talents, drop me a PM - likewise if you want my CV or anything - I'll consider any job.
I will be happy to drop your name on the application if you stand to get any kind of bonus/incentive for introducing new employees (e.g. my current employer gives Ģ250 of vouchers).
Obviously, there will be many, many beers at the AR for anyone who manages to help me make the move! :D
Thank you all very much
Andy

Cant help you with a job off (good luck BTW), but might be worth adding Swindon into the search area.
I know that Cable and Wireless have a big Datacenter in Swindon.

I already asked about a transfer but there's no positions open in our Bristol office at the mo. Chubb had a vacancy for a service engineer so I applied for that but didn't get an interview :( I've sent off my CV on spec to a few other similar companies, will have to wait and see if that produces any results...
Stretchie & Cheryl have kindly offered me a place to live - I had no hesitation in saying yes cos they're both ace! :D (and the pub is only a 2 minute walk away...;))

It's true, he is a tart and available for hire. If you want a Saxo for the night he is available for hire until he gets a job down here..

No. No it is not.
Saxo, you know we run a one in one out policy with Northerners down here? Therefore Stretchie has to go back to the motherland (thankfully).
But anyway can't help with the job hunt, not my industry. But good luck, chin up, chop chop and all that.
Aww hun you will have a fantastic time in Bristol... but you really dont want to work in Swindon if you can help it however you may have better luck with your CV there.
Check online the phone companies I think orange or Vodaphone are still hiring in that area. Make your CV up and then go into the centre of Bristol and do the rounds of the agencies. I think Ranstad have AOL on their companies books and there are a few others that will be able to help you out, if not will be able to give you a temp job in the mean time..
Timing is good for you in Bristol right now as the students havent broken for the summer holidays to snap the jobs up.
Good Luck to you I hope it all goes well.

You know how I know that's not true? Someone would have offered me Ģ50k a year to do sweet F.A. by now, just to get rid!!

Good point about the agencies, I found a load online but haven't got round to ringing any of them yet - I think I know what I'll be doing for most of today! Ranstad sounds like a good place to start, ta :D

Agencies respond better if you go into their branch. Get suited and booted and make a good impression with them (jeans and T-shirts wont get you anywhere with most of them!).
In the centre you will have Adecco, Kelly, Ranstand, I think if itīs still there, a more technical agency next to the Hypadrome but itīs upstairs.

I was thinking of spending a day or two going round the Manchester branches of the national agencies with my CV etc - like you say, if I go in wearing a suit etc they will hopefully take me seriously. Just have to hope my boss / colleagues don't see me wandering around the city centre or something!
Ideally I would like to go round Bristol agencies but getting the time off to come down is a problem, hopefully going to the Manchester branches of the same agencies will be a good start...

Good luck to you matey, I agree with Anna, make sure you are suited, first impression and all. Secondly and this is the most important part; when you have been round 5 agencies and think, "that should be enough"......find 5 more!!!!!
Have you registered on all the internet job sites? Last time I looked I was registered at 8 agencies in Cheltenham, but the job offer I got was through www.totaljobs.com, when you apply online it is normally an agency that has posted the advert, so it is also a good way of getting another agency to see your CV.
Hope you find something buddy.
PS - Stretchie......what were you thinking!!!!!:D

Thanks Drew, don't worry I intend to exhaust EVERY avenue of getting a job (except THAT Stretchie - I've told you before!), I'll give that link a try too.
Stretchie - I did think of coming down for a couple of days to go round agencies in Bristol, which is what I think you're getting at...
I figured if I can do the national agencies in Manchester though it means I could spend more time in Bristol doing the rounds of the local agencies & possibly even spending a day in Bath / Chippenham etc.
Try these sites too

Righto, I'm heading to Bristol on Monday - Thursday next week (thanks Stretchie & Cheryl :)). I've sort of got one interview lined up (thanks again to Stretchie :D), but still planning to go round as many agencies in the city as poss.
Anyone got any tips / things to take with me (aside from going in a suit and having copies of my CV etc)?
Ta
Off the top of my head ... Alert systems in Trowbridge might be a good place to look, they install a lot of security alarms and stuff.

Got an interview with the NHS in Devizes on the 19th, fingers crossed! :D
