I'm trusting this hasn't been done already....

Out of interest....... would being able to see "who's onlline" as a part of this website and being able to "chat" with them realtime - aka MSN-like:

a) make sv650.org better
b) make sv650.org worse
c) make sv650.org more awkward
d) make sv650.org more easy to use
e) not make any difference

In my honest opinion i don't think they work all that well. I've seen them on some other forums and i don't see the point. The megathreads gives people a place to talk about random topics, and i think it's easier to communicate in a thread. My opinion ;)

Oh this old chesnut, it has been suggested several times over the course of the site & forum's life. It always comes to the same conclusion that it is called the megathread.

you can see who's online at the bottom of every page. It's the instant update that's different

yes it's nice seeing who is online, which you can now. The IM is OK but it's easier to post without thinking your interupting someones conversation, plus everyone gets a fair shot as contributing, IM can sometimes seem a bit cliquey

Aye, the general consensus is no. I really don't think it would add anything.

As the others have said, its come up before, as mods we discussed it and felt it wouldnt add anything to the site.

Also if we add a chat function to the site it may well get blocked by peoples internet security at work, which I dont think any of us want.

We did setup a trial chat room a couple of years ago and nobody used it. I honestly dont think theres a need for it.

Chat rooms are often difficult to keep up with, specialy when you get loads of people having loads of seperate conversations

If the people want it, put it in, but IMO its not worth the effort. I think the message boards are easier

if people want it - create a sticky thread for people to add their MSN names (like Paul the 6th did for xbox live), that way people can decide if they want to do it themselves and there is no overhead on the mods !

Not much point, if people are friendly enough to want to chat one to one then simple requests for msn addresses aren't too difficult to make. Seeing who's online doesn't work either, some of us like the invisible function :-P

I think the site is fab as it is and all the mods are doing a fantastic job, don't change it :-D

+1

I think there is something you can do... a Chat box, something that is quick and easy to talk on but isnt a chat room, it would basically be a megathread condensed though... so perhaps no point.
