Prefer the golf myself but I think I'd settle for the Scirocco ;)

Looks awesome.
I don't like the black sort of undertray at the back...they have them on the new Focus RS as well...don't see why so many cars are suddenly having them!

Having seen a Scirrocco in the flesh, I'm not so keen, its looks kind of squashed at the back end.
As for Golfs, looking like Golfs, thats part of the appeal, its supposed to look like a Golf so you can trace its genetics all the way back the original and best the MkI GTI.

But they also look like the 80's incarnation of the Nissan Sunny  :D

Me too but it's only a 1.4
Does yours have the black bumper trims? I wish mine didn't
It looks very nice but not a lot different to the current model GTI to me?

Mines a 1.4 too, bit sluggish and gearboxes go on them but I still love it. It's black and /i think the bumpers are colour coded. Look in the engine bay there's sooo much room.

Will there be a diesel i wonder :D

They do a 2.0 TDi...140 ponies. Not a "hot" diesel though!

could be hot enough for me could that. Enough acceleration to be fun but without drinking gallons of fuel everytime you put your foot down :) 320 nm of torque... not bad at all :D
edit: just re-read the tech specs, the diesel has more torque than the 200ps petrol version!

The Scirocco is awful inside, nothing special about it whatsoever... but it's a sexy beast :)

Yeh I nearly get out-accelerated by vans unless I'm over 3k rpm. I love the looks of them though, especially when you put the sidelights on - looks mean
Mine is silver so the black bumper trim sticks out a mile. The slightly newer ones have colour coded trims

i got the wife a golf mk5 2.0TDi GT last year, i love it. it's well quick and handles great.
bette rthan the cruiser passat i have.
the new golf is lovely inside and i do live the scirocco (but not for 22k!)
Mazda 3 MPS is the way forward! :)

I think it's this "diffuser" trend which has come down from some supercars, e.g http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1198/1419310490_133c436aef.jpg?v=0
I like the Scirocco, if I were after a 3 door one I'd want that instead of the Golf. Only downside with the Scirocco is that it has the Golf V interior, and not the new Golf VI interior.

Now don't tell me that i'm the only one who spotted that car is doing a decent speed yet has no driver?? :P
i'll keep that secret to myself.
Scirocco might look good but power wise is lower than the SEAT Leon. Why produce a car that is lower spec than your cheaper rival?
Golf is nice but every year there is a new version of it! It's becoming a bit of a joke IMO.

Not a fan of the Golfs...
Too underpowered compared to how heavy it is! - much better cars in its class!

mines a 2003 on on a 52 plate (£100 insurance than if it was 2002!) - and yeah, agreed, side lights look good.
Vans aren't to be sniffed at though I used to drive a 2l turbo diesel tranny and it was rapid! I just chose the golf cause it looked smart, was comfy (I drive a fair bit), nice to drive and reliable (supposedly...the gearbox has started to go). Before the golf I drove work cars; a 2002 polo (horrible to drive), a bmw saloon (more underpowered than the golf), a new 2l focus (horrible until you get to about 50mph) and a 2l turbo petrol audi a3 (fun!). I can honestly say the golf's the second best to drive out of the lot of them, after the audi - the others don't come close. just don't attempt hills with a full tank!

Oh me wants one of them. When my car and bike loan are paid off I am going to lease me one of those ! Niceeeee

It is rumoured that the Scirocco is to be released in a 265bhp version, to be called the R20T. Will have the lump out the Audi S3.

I believe most of us spotted that it was an early concept car which probably never drove anywhere and doesn't even look a lot like the production model, so didn't think it was worth mentioning ;)

Maybe it's just me but the Scirocco looks like a 206 that's been sat on by a fat bird.

If VW want to launch a truly modern looking classic, all they have to do is make another Corrado that looks exactly like the old one.
just re-read the tech specs, the diesel has more torque than the 200ps petrol version!
Yep, torque is good
I like the golf and the Scirroco a lot and i have found that its a very 'colour' car. By that i mean, it looks a lot better in some colours than others.
As for the new golf. Althought its a great car, the side shot looks like it slopes up[ at the back, sort of like its jacked up. Also, its about tie they got a little more power out of the engine to 'keep up with the jones'' I mean, 210bhp isnt enough. Id still have one, but would prefer an A3

We have the TDi GT too - I think it's brilliant. A lot of shove for a car that doesn't drop below 40mpg however hard I try!
I mean, 210bhp isnt enough.
Eh? In a country dominated by speed cameras, you want more than 210bhp?! :smt104 :D
