Right then a few things I found (do it one at a atime...):
1) install latest patch, just google it ;) (http://www.2kgames.com/bioshock/support/)
2) Go to the control panel, then to hardware and sound, then to sound, right click and then select show disabled devices, then go to recording and activate the stereo mix. This might help you.
3) Disable sound acceleration.
4) Change compatability to XP SP2. You can do this by going to where the Exe file is (the game folder and find the icon which starts the game) then right click and go to properties and find compatability.
5) Download and install the sound drivers... If you have Realtek Onboard sound, choose this one:

for HD:

http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/...Audio%20Codecs (http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=24&PFid=24&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false#High%20Definition%20Audio%20Codecs)

for AC97 (normal):

http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/...tDown=false#AC (http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/...tDown=false#AC)

You'll have to figure out which one your comp has.

Hope this helps.

thank you for the reply,

the patch wont work, it says it cant find the same files even tho its looking in the right folder.

my laptop doesnt have the stero mixing bit.

realtec updates dont work on vaio's, and sony doesnt do an up date, not one tht i can find any way.

im so annoyeddd.

Blasted Laptops. Sigh.

So what exactly is the patch saying? It doesn't make much sense it not working :(

What exact model of Laptop is it? Where did you get it from?

i dont fancy buying a new sound card. i can get it to work now, but intemitedly.

it worked last night, turned it off then this morn it didnt. fiddled about with it got it working. turned it bk on no sound gain. seems the sound doesnt work when i open a save place rather then starting a new game.

i think i mite just give up.
