Whose your fave? Who've you seen live?
I've just been watching that "Live at the Apollo" and had a right old laugh at that Jason Manford from manchester, funny guy! Russell Howard must be on speed or something...
My housemate's just informed me he's coming to Aber, so might bimble along and get a ticket :-D Jimmy Carr's coming too at a different date but tickets are dearer for him so no chance  :)

I think that Michael Mcintyre is one of the funniest stand-up comedians. I hadn't heard of him before I saw him on "Live at the Apollo".
Dara O'Briain is superb too.

I missed that, is that when he had to improvise for a while? Animals, Politica and Fame are superb. When he talks about massively obese people going on about how they don't know how to lose weight. Has me in stitches every time i watch it!

I would love to go and see Bill Bailey. Also Lee Evans, if only he'd stop swearing a little. They both have the tears rollling I laugh so much

Improvise, that's what you could call it yeah. I prefer complete balls up. The whole idea behind stand-up comedy is being quick and witty and able to think crap up on the spot - even old stuff is good, anything.... he completely stalled and didn't know what to do, just didn't impress me!
Also Lee Evans, if only he'd stop sweating a little.
Corrected :-P That bloke must go through so many towels, I be scared of getting drenched if I was anywhere near the front row!!

I do like bill bailey, most on live at the apollo are good. Can't think of any decent ones now though :-?
The Big Yin for me.
He is certainly my favourite.
I also think Dennis Leary is great to if you like very aggressive ranting style comedy (much like Bill Hicks). Leary's 'No Cure For Cancer' show was fantastic.

au contraire (sp!?) leary is like hicks. leary completely ripped off hicks's act and never had the cahunas to admit it

Andrew Maxwell, when he's on form, is pretty fantastic... Rhod Gilbert's absolutely brilliant as well I think. I really wish I'd seen Bill Hicks.

Some I've seen on DVD that are great:
Russell Howard - I think he's only done 1 DVD
Dara O'Briain - Get 'Talks Funny' if you can, better than his 1st effort.
Billy Connolly - His earlier stuff is better IMHO
Eddie Izzard - Any, all of 'em are good. The Death Star Canteen is genius!
Lee Evans - I can recite one of his Edinburgh shows almost verbatim cos a mate had it on VHS & we watched it pretty much every weekend!
Peter Kay - 'Top of the Tower' is still the best.
Seen live:
Bill Bailey - absolutely hilarious, any of his DVDs are worth forking out for.
Ross Noble - saw him at Edinburgh Festival a few years back, realy surreal stuff, p155-funny!
Chris Rock - absolutely brilliant, best American stand-up I've seen.

Just my opinion.

Ross Noble once picked me out as a target for vicious bullying, after he spotted me talking to my girlfriend in the crowd of Late and Live during his set... He spent the next 20 minutes basically tearing me apart, and it was one of the funniest 20 minutes of my life, I just about fell off my seat. Man is a genius.

Im going to see Jimmy Carr next month.
I've seen Eddie Izzard and Dara O' Briain (twice), both brilliant. Though I've seen others that I can't recall the names of, at either the Glee Club or Jongleurs who have been just as good on the night.
I don't get Michael Mcintyre - think he's weird. I don't get Jimmy Carr either - yes he has some funny gags but a whole set made of one-liners just doesn't do it for me. I haven't seen him do anything else.

Taped the 100 best ever standup program at the weekend and watched it the other night.
Love all the Bill Hicks(RIP) stuff, always forget to try and see if he has any DVD's. Never saw him live. "Positive drug stories on the news etc."
Love the BigYins stuff although a lot of folk do not like him here. Envy most of it I would guess.
Seen "Magician:D" Jerry Sadowitz twice live and it hurt the face off me both times. His Gary Glitter stuff they showed on that program had me in tears. Loved his channel5 show too.
Like Frankie Boyle on the tele. Just ok live.
Best stand up I have seen was not a comedian and stood on stage for 3hrs and gassed non-stop. Henry Rollins out of Black Flag. ****ing amazing. Funny-as-****. Saw him live with his band a few times (maniac on stage) so some fella standing their preaching/spoken word did not float my boat. What I have missed!:( Class act.
So many, but to name a few
Michael Mcintyre
Jimmy Carr
Russel Howard
Rohd Gilbert (Shouty Welsh bloke)
Rich Hall (Texan bloke)
Stephen Wright (Surreal american comedian)
Bill Bailey (Sometimes)
Shaun Lock
Jason Mumford
Omid Djalili
and legend The late Dave Allen
Funniest seen live?
1. Bob Monkhouse. Best of the lot, and by a fair margin. Pure genius and really rather "blue" live - far removed from his TV appearences. RIP.
The best of the rest:
2. Mike Harding. Simply awesome live - 2.5 hours of side-splitting stuff. Google for "The 14.5lb Budgie", hopefully some's YouTubed it
3. Bill Bailey. 'nuff said already. Another genius of comedy/music.
4. The Big Yin. Only he can get away with what he does. Unique.
5. Ken Dodd. Long, long live shows. Corny and inoffensive but great if you're in the mood :-D
6. Ross Noble. Inventive and funny. Thinks on his feet.
Frankie Boyle Live.
His support act was quite good, some Texan guy (could be same one mentioned by Viney), who came on stage half cut, was quite funny tbh.
Frankie Boyle i thought was amazing, really harsh, quick and appealed to the audiences harsh Scottish humour.. Which he also shares.. :)

Jason Manford you mean? He's excellent I shall be booking my ticket to see him this month

The Reverend Obidiah Steppenwolf III?
Guys real name is Jim Muir and he is "fae Kilmacolm" or summit as uninteresting. :)
He was good, came on swigging a bottle of wine (table not tonic;)) and got severely heckled cos half the PA was down. Handled it great.

of the new stand ups theres only peter kay that stands out for me.
going back a few years there were some brilliant acts, not pc maybe but back then people were allowed to laugh at themselves.
roy walker, bernard, colin crompton, frank carson, dougie brown and many more.

Ah, when Al Murray- Pub Landlord was still fresh, it was fantastic... Sure there's a lot of reference to other people's material, but with his own twist usually, he uses the familiar to set up his own punchline. But it's a bit tired now, he gives the impression he's used up all the funny.

My Fav comics are Mark Thomas, Bill Maher, Frankie Boyle, George Carlin, Lenny Bruce , i could go on theres a long list mostly comics with an political edge to there routine, Saw loads few yrs back when i lived in london practically lived in the comedy store, But if i had to choose one for my desert island it would have to be Bill Hicks :notworthy: .
Jas...
Jason Manford you mean? He's excellent I shall be booking my ticket to see him this month :cheers:Him as well!
I also forgot to say Dave Allen and Omid Djalili. These two are about the only ones that have brought me to tears and not being able to breathe.
Rich Hall is the texan comedian and Rhod Gilbert is the shouty welsh bloke. Thanks Wikipedia :)

Peter kay basically has just one joke, which he repeats with a different subject,
Gervais , w*nk, without stephen merchant hed just be annoying, his improv is a joke,
best stand ups ive seen recently
Rhod Gilbert,
Jason Cook, watch for him hes gonna be huge,
Dan Nightingale, another one to watch,
Jimmy carr was excellent live and far less tw*tish than he appears on tv
ross noble, superb if youre in the mood,
Dylan Moran, probably the best storyteller around at the moment
Gary Delany , the best one liners in the country, jimmy carr could be this good if he worked harder,
and best overall laugh a minute ive ever seen.......................Ivan Brackenbury..........

Ah, he compered the tartan ribbon the year before last, absolutely fantastic. Takes a basically crap joke and runs with it til it becomes genius.
If you like Dylan Moran's storytelling style, ever seen Tommy Tiernan? He can be great when he wants to.

Thats the guy, thought he was amazing, decided to just get plastered while taking the pis out of all the women and out of cancer treatments...
E.g
I dont see women as sex objects, i see them as life support machines for v@gina's.
Chemotherapy, the worlds cheapest cure for dandruff...
Quite harsh lines like that, seemed to appeal to the Scots audience..

Lee Evans
Al Murry
are the main ones, but there are many more I enjoy watching. Most are at least watchable...
Some great old ones, dead ones... was watching top 100 comedians and there were so many funny people (men, why is that?).
Not seen any :(
Except I dont like Russel Brand. He just isnt funny. Just weird tbh...
