View Full Version : Best looking bike of all time

What's your pick for best looking sportbike(s) ever????
I have three...or 4
Will go with my mass produced favorites.....
In no paticular order...
These three have been "the face of sportbikes", if you will, to the non biking public.
mid nineties (94 up I think) Kawasaki ZX9R
at that time most of the US refered to all sportbikes as "Ninjabikes"
The original R1.
Again a bike that changed the face of sportbikes to the public and influenced the design and asthetics of many other bikes.
And a great machine as well, setting the bar for power and handling at the time.
The Ducati 996.
Drop dead sexy.
If you're basing it on looks alone...this is it.
Probably the best looking bike of all time...except for:
The Curvy SV
(you knew that was coming , right?);)

996 and curvy? Hmmm.

Apart from the obvious Curvy SV650s
The first one that comes to my mind is the Ducati 900ss (the original one)

Plus of corse Laverda Jota and Kawasaki Z1R

Mine are biased to modern bikes, but hey ho. In no particular order:
Triumph Daytona 675

And perhaps most controversially, Suzuki Hayabusa (the artist will complain about the lines, the engineer will applaud it's aerodynamics)

Sportsbikes only?
ZXR750J1. GSX-R750M. 916. RC30. NSR250(Pro-Arm)
Yup, stuck in the '90's!:)

RC45, nuff sed.
I love that Tricolour design on the 1098 - makes it look lovely. That MV agusta with the four small pipes is pretty special too.
In the flesh I really like both the speed striple and Yamaha MT-01 - both in black. Both stubby, mad, powerful bikes that look like they will bite.
I also love the white HRC 'Blade - but that's mostly cos of the colour scheme rather than the lines of the bike.
I don't find bikes other than sporty bikes good looking, classics, tourers etc I can see why people have them but they're not good looking IMO.

I really like the RSV-R 03 model. Damn good looking bike. :)
MV Augusta 750F/1000F obviously, 1098, and 999R. 999R grew on me, at first it wasnt so nice looking. :(
SP1-2, 05-06 GSXR1000 (none of the other gixxers look like it, so nice, shame its an IL4).

As you know, one of my favourite bikes of all time, but not IMHO the best looking. If I had the money, I'd have one like a shot, but it don't look as sexy as the 916 to me.

Yes, I quite like the Busa's looks too. Although I agree it looks a bit ugly, it looks so purposeful that you can forgive it and in some bizarre way, it actually adds to its appeal.
I cant think of one that is the best "of all time" - but I just luuuurrrve these - and yes it is a sportsbike - just one that was built without fairings :p

Busa? Butt ugly but each to their own. Two words that should never be mentioned in the same breath are "motorcycles" and "aerodynamics". Bikes are arguably the second worst vehicles on the road.
Every bike has its merits. I can find a certain grace in the most utilitarian designs. It certainly does not need an acre of plastic and a flashy paint scheme.
Cheers

Only sportsbikes I really like for being nice looking.
However, I love the mean look of the Tl1000S, and the GSXR1100M onwards.
That or for being total bike porn, the izax trellis frames. Preferably wrapped around a TL motor. No idea if they've made one, but I want one!

Agree on the 916 and the MV Augusta, but here's a controversial one.
This is based purely on looks. I have ridden one and know how it goes and handles (or doesn't) but I love the looks....

well when we got the vrap, the cans went straight away for some M4s. That must have taken about half the weight o the bike with them.....they weigh a tonne! Slower than the SV on paper, Dave. Cant comment on the road yet as Ive only ridden it once and it wasnt enough to gauge.
Personally if we are talking about the best looking bike, then the 848 or 1098/1198 would be up there amongst my top 3. As far as wanting to ride it though, id probably rather leave it on display. It was one of the most uncomfortable Id sat on.

Agreed Fizz.
There have been some bikes cited which are striking or brutal or pretty, but the 748/916/996 is beautiful. From any angle it looks great and you don't have to make excuses about any of it. Interesting that folks always think of the 916, when the 748 and 996 are identical apart from the 996 having the fashionable 190 rear which a lot of owners ditch for the 180 anyway. The 996R/998/later 748 loses a few points due to the slabby side fairings. A not very elegant solution to fitting the new short stroke engine in.

Yeah I like benelli's range apparently the electrics are a load of ****e on them though. Benelli advise leaving the killswitch off when the bike's not in use to stop battery drain.

Guess you should get a new guide dog Dave! :
It's defintely quirky and different looking. I had one for those reasons, amongst others, but I never called mine good looking.
Different? They just look like a normal sport tourer thing...but a v-twin which is a plus in my eyes. I like quite a lot of bikes but I think IL4's sticking out like massive footrests look daft and spoil the bike. There should be more v-twins.
