I think it might be a good idea for me to invest in some winter gloves. I currently own a pair of Frank Thomas XS summer gloves which were the only ones that fitted me at the time and they're not the best tbh. I have come to the conclusion that I should probably invest as this winter I was wearing the FT ones with some Richa winters on top, these kind of kept my hands a bit warmer but I think cut my circulation off a bit (which is bad anyway). Oh and I couldn't feel a thing with them which gets annoying when fumbling with me visor and such.
So before I go on the hunt, bearing in mind I would like to get some in the next 3 weeks in time for the Hardy biker/nutjobs rideout....any ladies (or fellas) who can recommend some decent ones?
Thankyou in advance :)

The medium would be enough to get some silk/thermal gloves and put these on top.
YC could treat you ;)

Would a pair of those in small fit Miss YC? I have a spare pair that I think from memory are small which I'm sure we could come to some agreement about if you're interested.
If you cant find any biking gloves to fit you..
I wear my skiing gloves..
Low on protection, but if you're hands are warmer, then you are less likely to have a crash or a accident..
Cant remember if you go pillion only?

I have been for a while but will be booking my CBT in the next few months :)
Oh and GazzaD, I may well be interested in those Richa ones, are they ladies ones you have? I did like the ones we have but just too big and a pain when you end up fumbling for everything
Still not clear if you want protection over warmth..
I wear my mittens (skii gloves with no fingers).
Can operate clutch/throttle and all the controls easily, and still have a good feel to them..
None of the 4 pairs of gloves i have, are even close the these gloves on warmth..
Something like this....?

Dont cost alot either, and will defiently keep you're hands warm.
No finger spaces for the air to get inbetween..

Well you'd like to think by now they wold have up with some that cover both aspects :p . Protection comes first, I'd be happy with numb fingers as long as I still had them after an off
Although those mittens look warm, ideally I'd like to be wearing the same gloves when I learn to ride and I'd prefer them with fingers :-) The mittens look great for keeping warm as a pillion though!
i like my spada winter glove's £30 they were but still bulky though.
I cant find anything in the middle ground between protection and warmth..
Try heated gloves, dont know alot about them, not sure if they have suitable protection..
I fitted heatgrips and hand guards, not really going to help you..
If you have a bulky summer gloves, try putting a cheap thin(ish) pair of wolly gloves under them, i can do that with 2out of 4 of my gloves, helps alot, adds bulkyness, but still got alot of feel.
The 99p shop sells cheap thin(ish) gloves of the sort i am talking about..
Just temporary suggestions until/if you find a warm winter glove with adequte protection..

Lol over the christmas period I was wearing my summer gloves and a pair of fleecy woolen glove things over the top but didn't help much. Then I tried wearing the Richa ones on top of my summer gloves which actually made no difference surprisingly. Well they did for the first 15 minutes of so but not much good for long rides!
And suggestions always welcome :-) I won't exactly need to use any biking gear for at least another fortnight or so anyway.
Really?
Mmm the mittens are my favourite when it really gets cold..
I have a pair of Belstaff gloves, large, protected, and warm, but cant find them online..
Theyre the gloves i use when not my mittens :)
Feel lyk a actualy gay saying that i wear mittens...

Better than saying you wear muffs....or would it be better ?
What you saying really at?
Does the wooly gloves under gloves not help?
Muffs or mittens, both sound equally feminine, but as long as it keeps my hands warm, all that matters..
Talk later, watching skins :)

Have you tried a pair of latex gloves under your normal ones? They can really help. I had exactly the same problem, the best ones I found were Alpinestars Stella ones, but they were £100 or so. Perfect fit, and I fitted hotgrips as they aren't a winter glove.
It's really difficult without tryi ng them on, what is a small hand to someone would be too big for you-my hands are smaller than my 14year olds-wish the rest of me was!

Lol :)
I hate shopping for stuff without trying it on, but sometimes it cant be helped. Unfortunately the FT ones are the only brand I've really tried that fitted and of course what may be a small in one brand may be pretty big in comparison with another
Oh well, I shall find some eventually :)

Hey I've got a pair of FT small ones, used them for a while before I got my alpinestars you can have them(free!) if they'll do a turn? Good for spares anyhow.

failing all else try getting to a Hein Gericke shop, I know there isn't one close (there's one in Chester and another in Liverpool, or perhaps the one in Preston when you're back home) do try them on as the sizing is all over the place, I range from a medium to an XL size at times. but even if you don't buy there at least you'll find the size you are in different brands, then you can order over the net.
several friends have these (http://www.hein-gericke.co.uk/shop/product_info.php/cPath/6_144/products_id/3695) as winter gloves, and were impressed with the warmth and quality for the money , I've looked at them and they do seem to be made quite well.

they also do the same gloves in "lobster" style as well, but I'm not sure about those to be honest.
http://www.hein-gericke.co.uk/shop/images/prodpics/HGPATHANEVO3-FINGERED3.jpg
Or if those are to thick, they do an all season version

all around the £40 -45 mark.
Good luck.
Cheers Mark XxXx.

They were mens ones, I'll double check size tonight if you want. I'm sure I could meet up with YC to let him have them for you to try if you want; I work in Leeds and live just outside Halifax. PM if you want to do this.

Aye tis a good little commoonity.
i had the hein gericke lobster type. they were fantastic. great for giving hand gestures to horrible drivers too. wore them during rideouts in scotland in the snow and hands were chilly by the end of the day but fingers had not fallen off.

you have to figure out why your hands are cold. If its a circulation problem then (like me) your stuffed to a certain extent. If gloves are too tight then you will get cold hands as the cold is effectivly conducted through the glove. If there too big then you can still get cold spots. I do a lot of skiing and find that something leather works better than textiles (leather winter gloves) with a liner. However its also a good idea to warm your hands up before you get going. Not by blowing into the glove but just moving your fingers about till they get warm. They will stay warmer for longer then. Also stiffer gloves seem to be warmer as well for some reason.
Oh and alter your grip to suit. Maybe grabbing something thicker than the grab rail might help improve circulation>? Just a thourght....

I don't tend to grip onto anything so that's not a problem. Before, I've resorted to sitting on my hands/keeping them in my lap for warmth lol. And warming my hands up before I get on the bike doesn't make a blime bit of difference really, they get cold again soon enough. It's just a matter of getting some thick gloves I think, just not so thick I can't feel a thing, and as you say, not so they cut my circulation off at the wrist.

Get some marigolds love they are the only thing women need on their hands. But seriously put them over the top of any type of glove and you will have nice toasty warm hands with grip and the added bonus of being able to do the washing up straight off the bike. ;)

Maria, your perhaps going to have to get used to the fact that pretty much most 'winter' gloves are going to be clompy...they're designed to be warm. The Held ones that I have are getting shaped to my hands now, so are less fumbly when trying to pick up my keys. All the gloves(even summer) that I have ever had have started off being stiff and fat fingered.

Vixis has a pair of HG Sheltex gloves that are good.
I know as I have "borrowed" them due to my winter gloves being taken in the break in to my garage....
Size is XS (yes I have small hands) and they have Thinsulate in them...
Which seems to describe ALL HG gloves - some googling says they are these

Yes but there's a difference between being a tad clompy and feeling like you've just got shoes on your hands lol.
