Well the wife has got the bug after going on the back of the bike with me a couple of times. :)
She applied for her provisional and has just got it back and so is looking to do her CBT.
She was going to go for a 125 scooter but after looking around many bike shops she has changed her mind and is going to go for a mauranda 125 :D.
Are these bikes any good for a complete novice or would she be better of going for something else.
She is a little short in the legs like me but when she is on this bike she feels very comfortable.
Will be booking the CBT in a couple of weeks when the weather gets a bit better. I hope so likes it and enjoys the thrill of riding and hopefully go on to get her full licence.:D
that is all!
Can't help about the bike!?

Well its learner legal and has gears so is a good bet.
Found this
There are cheaper learner-legal motorcycles than the Suzuki GZ125 Marauder – basic machines like Honda’s CG125 do the same job just as well for less money – but look plainer. Then there’s the Chinese / Korean alternatives – cheapo and some look funky but it's always a gamble. The Suzuki GZ125 Marauder provides a good balance of pose, performance and economy for the price. 100mpg is quite achievable and running costs are low.
However if she is planning on CBT then DAS/Full test soon after (to get onto something bigger) get something second hand.
Marauders seem to be about £2k new - you can buy a second hand 125 in reasonable nick for £500 and then sell it for £500 - You will take at least a £500 hit on a new Marauder when you try and sell it in a few months - if you are keeping it for years then thats a different story.

I think she will be riding on her CBT for about a year or so untill she builds up her confidence and road skills.
I think she has set her heart on this bike as it is low and she can put her feet down which gives her a bit more confidence.
i have the same short leg problem. I was tip toe with one foot on sv. got a raptor 1000 and my feet are both flat on the ground. give you so much more confidence. good luck to her. what about a wee 400 for her
i was looking at one of these before i decided to take my full test instead of just the cbt, and they seem very good and even better as there are some V-twin 125 versions kicking about for about a grand. Meant ot be easy to control and good visability due to the big mirrors.
All in all, you could do worse.

Get a CG125 for her to mess about on untill time for her to get something bigger
If she's keeping it for a year and going to do some miles, maybe a stroker as the 4t 125's are SLOW.

I understand why people say "get a stroker".
However I would recommend against it - the need to add oil to the fuel is just another "maintainence" task.
A 4-stroke may not set the world on fire, but it wont die when a newbie/non-mechanically minded person forgets to add oil......

Most road 2ts you do not need to add oil to the fuel, the injector pump came into common use around the early 70's :-P
Depends what you are going to do with it, horses for courses.

Good news about the missus newtsnumbers, make sure she comes on here and tells us all about it when she does :p

That's not a maintenance task - it's like adding petrol, about as complicated and a lot less frequent...
