You know when you buy a new bike, the bike shop checks your licence to ensure you've got a full bike licence.
Why on earth don't they do this with cars? I'm assuming said footballer bought new and not second hand.

yorkie_chris

Easy enough to say "what's it to yer?" or "it's for the track", it's not the shops responsibility to hold your hand. Personally I'd have no qualms about it, cash talks ... didn't your youngun buy a scutter before she did CBT? :-P

Tim, no, it wasn't me, but it was one of the lads from my unit. We have both the United and City training grounds on our patch, so it's not unusual to come across them now and again.

There was a certain feeling of satisfaction floating around the office though!

Pete.

Maybe when he bought it he was still driving on his Argentinian licence, which he can do for the first 12 months. What they have to do if they are going to stay here longer than that is apply for a UK provisional (which is what it sounds like he has done) then pass his test before the 12 months are up (which he obviously hasn't done).

Oh and they won't crush it, he has 14 days to get someone with a full licence to go with him to the pound and then he can drive it away (with L plates on of course). Bet the L plates wouldn't look to cool in the club car park though!!

That'll explain his celebration this weekend then.
Bit of a ***** way of celebrating mind, joe public would be in ruins pulling such crap. This doesn't exactly bring him closer to the fans he so significantly alienated not so long ago...
Saying that they're Manchester so driving bans amongst the fans are probably more common than licences

I'll wager that is was probably dripping in tawdry Mansory tat, if it was a footballer's Bentley.

Part of me hopes that there can't be a real demand for this sort of stuff and that the whole company exists to fulfil some sort of ironic post-modern statement that I'm not hip enough to get. Then the realist steps in and points out that vulgar people who lack imagination and have too much money tend to fritter it away of precisely this sort of nonsense.

So glad this chav gets treated like everyone else. He should be given more punishment than an impounded car. He was driving a very powerful car without a license. I bet that if a 17 year-old rich kid was caught driving his dad's Bentley without a license, he'd be in bigger trouble. Not having a license also voids your insurance, doesn't it?

If a court bans you from driving and you then drive anyway that should be contempt of court.
I think that is more serious than, say, swapping speeding points awarded by a camera. Not how our legal system sees it though.
