Pro-God buses for London streets
Three separate pro-God advert campaigns on the sides of London buses are set to hit city streets.
Buses adorned with the slogan "There definitely is a God" are from the Christian Party, while the Trinitarian Bible Society chose a Biblical verse.
The Russian Orthodox Church is also preparing bus adverts.

Ladies and gentlemen, i give you section 3.1 of the ASA CAP code (http://www.asa.org.uk/asa/codes/cap_code/ShowCode.htm?clause_id=1489):
3.1
Before distributing or submitting a marketing communication for publication, marketers must hold documentary evidence to prove all claims, whether direct or implied, that are capable of objective substantiation.
OK then, let's see it...

LOL. So surley what you said about the claims being substantiated means they have to substantiate it? Or can a sue them for false advertising?

I take it that slogans to combat the athiests advert 'there probably isn't a god so relax and enjoy your life'
Folks, please remember there are some genuinely religious people that frequent this forum. The last thread of this ilk descended into a religious argument more or less.
That said, the atheist adverts contained the word "probably," these state "definitely."
IMO, the Advertising Standards people will have to step in on this one.

Sigh...
There possibly is a god, but if there is he hasn't been around my life since he gave me my boyish good looks and charm so I gave up believing.

Probably, but seeing as they got banned IIRC, then as I dont believe in God, can I complain to the ASA about this latest lot ?
I dont believe in God, I'm not likely to either, but I have no problem with those that do.

I simply don't care!
If someone wants to put something on the side of a bus, let them.
It's only the athiest and the religious that are going to argue.
It's only the people like me who doesn't care either way, that is going to sit back and laugh at the rest.

you can complain to the advertising standards agency if you like
loads of christian activist groups complained to the ASA about the "probably no god" advert but the ASA investigated and found nothing against the rules
i think the ASA will investigate the new ones too as there's bound to be complaints, and if they don't meet the code of practice they'll get pulled
personally if they want to put ads up saying "we believe in god, so join the christian party" then power to them, if they want to incorrectly state opinion as fact even when ALL the evidence is against them then they should get called on it, simple as
The atheist version of this was actually quite fair using the word 'probably' since it cannot be proved either way. It's hardly fair that the christians should get away with what the atheists dared not to do...

leap of faith innit
"Before distributing or submitting a marketing communication for publication, marketers must hold documentary evidence to prove all claims, whether direct or implied, that are capable of objective substantiation."
Ok bit of a problem there. It's not explicit as to whether the objective substantiation is referring to the claim or the evidence. If its to the claim, then as it clearly isn't capable of objective substantiation, they hold no obligation to provide documentary evidence.
God exists.

End of subject. :D
I thought that the resident atheists on here would be so sure of themselves as not to feel remotely threatened, and so would have ignored these ads, but plainly not.
It's getting just a bit tedious...

No its not its double standards... Religous groups complained about Aethist adverts on a bus, then a few weeks / months later Religous adverts proclaiming there is a god get put on a bus.
I'm all for free speech and free religion, but surely both groups of people i.e. believers and non believers should be entitled for their views to be expressed in the same way ?

I agree, it's not like I ever give a second glance at something that contains so many poor people, so it doesn't bother me.

That was meant with a bucket load of sarcasm for those who missed that.
Atheist, Agnostic, why do you need a name for someone who doesn't believe in fairy stories? What do you call someone who doesn't believe in Santa? Or the tooth fairy?

Erm:
"The Christian Party, led by George Hargreaves, raised enough money for their adverts to appear on 50 London bendy buses."
I would say a better advert would be:
"There is definitely a God and you're about to meet him"
Sensible????
I'm sorry, but you can't use the word 'sensible' in a religion thread.

I usually stay out of these threads but...
The Atheist posters said 'probably' due to the ASA rules on proof. Therefore the Christan posters must also say 'probably' as they have to obey the same rules. Regardless of who is right or wrong there are rules for advertising and I would like to see them enforced evenly. That said if either parties could prove that there is or isn't I would be more than happy to listen.
And for the record I describe myself as a Dyslectic Agnostic Alcoholic Insomniac - I stay up all night drinking because I wonder if there is a Dog.

I think that it should be the turn of the polytheists next - "There are lots of gods - pick the ones that you like"
I'd also like to see buses with "There is definitely a Santa Claus".

I'm going to refuse to travel on any of the God buses as it upsets my non-believing sensitivities. Which is a pi$$er as I get free travel now:rolleyes:
:-k....Actually, that could turn out reall interesting as social services would have to provide me with an alternative form of transport....wooo! work that PC madness!
