Well done YC. In the time I've known you you have managed to seemingly convert me from knowing nothing about motorbikes (except that they have 2 wheels) to a can-actually-string-a-decent-conversation-with-a-complete-stranger-about....
BIKES :-D Last night in the pub. Usually YC has to start chatting about bikes but last night twas just little ol' me :smt040
So now not only do I ride pillion, but I actually read bike mags and don't just look at the pictures (have actually purchased one myself before to read an article that actually interested me), I will soon be learning to ride, I drool at every nice bike in the neighbourhood and adore the loud growls of meaty exhausts.
Now this may just seem like another one of my pointless threads but it amuses me that 3 years ago I wouldn't have thought twice about bikes, let alone even contemplate learning to ride one myself and yet here I am raring to vroom off into the sunset!
So thankyou babes  tis all your fault my family think am a hooligan....
OH and I forgot to mention I'd never have met you 'orrible lot - some would say that would be a blessing :-P

Me too, some of it does go in to my amazement. I don't need to thank the org, that goes without saying ;)

haha good for you miss yc  Hope you get riding soon. There's definitely a serious lack of women with an interest in motorbikes in this world.
I know exactly where you're coming from!
10 years ago when I first knew Mr Lou, he'd look at a bike and go 'that's ABC250, that's XXY700' and I wondered how he remembered all these letters and numbers, rather than names.
But now I can often beat him to the type of bike that whizzes past. And last night was chatting with a chap who'd just taken a rocket 3 for a test ride, and I was about to talk about cruisers!
Tis a good feeling. Now Miss YC, you need to do a mechanics course as well as the CBT, as I can now service the bike and car, which is even better!

There's your answer Lou :D I have spent so many hours in that cold garage with him just watching and asking questions, admittedly most answers go in one ear and out the other but I figure eventually stuff will sink in  :)

I could never beat him (oo-er) in the identification game but I know the odd bike on the road which is a vast improvement on a few years back lol

When you've got your own little bundle of joy and it can relate to yours less stuff'll fly out the other ear. You'll be lucky to have a resource like yc lol.

She is......My other half just says to me...you got a haynes manual!! Thankfully Miss YC is lucky to have a very patient MrYC, who'll help her while shes trying to figure out the Haynes manual, which probably would result in...meh, haynes manual?? gah hit it with a big hammer instead ;-)

Yep emotional/physical blackmail is a wonderful thing
You're right though. If am in the mood to get me hands dirty then I find stuff always sink in much better if I tinker myself (sorry that was an immensely dirty sentence without really meaning to be haha). I learn much better that way.
I told Chris that before I start riding properly I want him - hopefully with my help - to dismantle something nice and simple and try and put it back together. Just so I know exactly where everything should go, familiar with all the parts so to speak. Unfortunately if I get round to riding that Cagiva, that could be tricky, tis an evil git to work on lol.

Yeah I'm the same. I learnt my rough half arsed idea of where stuff goes from lambrettas and vespas, then moved onto simple bikes and can just about perform simple mechanics without killing myself or others but when that's a risk I shine the yc light into the sky:mrgreen:

Yes but a Haynes manual is all well and good for technical stuff like precise measurements etc. but actually getting to grips with engines and such needs to be done from scratch. Just having a book sat in front of me just isn't going to work.
And he hasn't lost his temper with me yet in three years so I clearly don't try his patience enough haha
