View Full Version : Getting rid of a cold fast?
Woke up early this morning with a tickly nose / mouth - always the first sign of a cold for me. It's progressed fast as the day's gone on and now I want to get rid of it fast - any ideas?
I tried that Vicks first defence stuff earlier but I'd rather have the cold than use that again - thought my head was going to explode - god knows how / why people snort stuff for fun!:-D
So, should I keep having lots of water / tea and healthy food, or shall I go to the offy, get some nice beers, drink said beers, then sleep it off?
Thanks,
Matt

read the instructions, you're not meant to "snort" it
:smt043
Well I didn't actually snort it - just sprayed it up my nose as per the instructions - but it didn't half hurt! :p

Hot whiskey/honey/orange juice with 2 paracetamol and off to a nice warm bed, preferably your own (exercise no good when you've got a cold! ;))
Strongbows is best bet a fair few, then get to bed all wrapped up and sweat it out!!:-D

High dose fizzy vitamin c tablets, and early to bed with a whisky and lemon.

Nope, already skipped the gym cos I don't feel like it today. I can't blow my nose while rowing so I'd end up with a load of snot down my t-shirt :smt110
Lots of talk of whisky - I don't have any :-k Maybe I should get some...
I like the idea of 'bow, either that or a few leffe's I reckon :smt115

Turn up the heating, drink plenty of fluids, eat chicken soup and sweat it out.
As the others have said Whisk(e)y is quite good as well.
Well I'm back from the offy, in the end I plumped for two bottles of 'Purity - Pure Gold' beer and a bottle of Kronenbourg Blanc. This is exactly what I fancied. There's plenty more alcohol in the house if it gets serious (ie, cold takes a further turn for the worse). This may not be the best way to get rid of a cold but at least I'll forget I've got one
Right, I'm off to watch MotoGP reruns tucked under a blanket, thanks for all the advice peeps!

Get well soon!
I've got one too. Haven't had a cold in about 10 years and I've now got a good one, headache, runny eyes, the lot.
Had to dash to town for work today and when I got back I was exhausted, I think I've forgotton how much it can take out of you, or perhaps it's because I'm 10 years older!:D
Lemsips and hot toddies for me. I've got to get better for Saturday, we're planning a 200mile ride on the bikes :(
