View Full Version : Tankbag question

I've used a few tankbags, but am looking at getting a new one. I've pretty much discounted the Oxford range (not so hot in a crash, limited capacity in the "Sport", don't like the lack of zipper along the back, etc.), I like Nelson Rigg stuff, but their tankbag doesn't seem their best product.

Looking at this;

I was wondering if anyone had any experience of this or a tankbag like it?

I've often wondered why the storage compartments didn't extend further down the side/onto the tank and this looks ideal. I'd rather have the extra bulk here (so long as it doesn't encroach on legroom) than on top like an expander tankbag as I usually have a Tomtom mounted in the middle of the headstock and you have to peer over the top of taller bags to see it. I tend to ride sat quite upright when using luggage, so something that comes quite close to where you're sat (and would cause problems when in a racing crouch) wouldn't be much of a concern to me.

Within reason, money isn't an object, so long as I get longevity out of it, I'd be hacked off it any zips failed etc. in less than 25K miles.

Any recommendations?

Edit: Proper waterproofing a bonus, but not essential as I usually double carrier bag stuff in tankbags.

Proper waterproofing = Kreiga tail pack + a "tank" conversion pad. 10 yr guarantee Money no object would be a bonuus  see group buy thread

Yes, I forgot to mention I was considering one of those with a US-20 (love the US-10 tailpack I have). Only slight concern was lack of capacity- don't suppose you know if you can get away with making a US-40 (clipping two US-10s to the US-20) and strapping that to it?

Very good quality, waterproof cover if needed. Never let me down yet. It's got a rounded rear end Just like.............(no I'd better not!) that fits well against your body when you lean in. You fit the base which has a map pocket and zip the top on and off, really usefull feature! Works for me.

Hi stuart,

Depending on the style of bike the max. possible would be the US-30. The 40 solution would be far too wide.

Hi

Is your Tank rated to carry a US 40?
What weight is your Tank recommended up to?

Thanks

Stuart.

So it sounds like a TANK would cope & it's up to you if you want a wide low tank bag. Why would a 20 not be big enough? :???:

Baglux evertime.

Quality build. Tough as old boots. Great aftercare for spares etc. Waterproof cover but I still have a bin bag at the bottom.

6yrs of use , stiches and zips still where they should be, not for the lack of trying with the amount of gash that I can get packed into it.

:)

I just got this one for my bike and it's got waterproof cover, expands quite a lot, side pockets and handy little pocket for mobile.

Have a look and see what you think.
