I got one of them, I am already book on one of these courses next weekend though. And paid the usual amount up front!!

I only passed in the summer so I thought a bit of extra training couldn't do any harm.

I passed a little bit before you L3nny, Stop laughing at the back! :smt019, but I still need every bit of help I can get.

The great thing about biking is that you keep on learning.

When you're comfortable you'll have to join up with some of us local peeps. :D

Even after 25 years and more miles than I care to remember I still like to get out and do a one or two day refresher each year (including some track work) with a group of riders that I don't know. A reminder of what I do wrong or what I can improve is gold.

Cheers

I would love to do a course like this; I did bikesafe last summer, but found it dampened my riding confidence somewhat, and felt it was just an excuse for the police rider to boost his ego. I learnt a few things but not as much as I would have liked to have learned.

Is there anything other than bikesafe that I can attend in london?

Did the course yesteday.

Was really good, the guy doing the training is excellent and really knows what advice to give you to improve your riding. It felt nothing like the lessons when I was doing my DAS.

Would reccomend the course to anyone, especially new riders.

That's a shame- the Bikesafe course I did was great- the police rider I was with was very helpful as well.

Can you perhaps do it again in a different area?

Or sign up for AIM? (cash allowing)

Well I went and got some extra training via this scheme.
We met all up at auntie ruths diner on the A5 at hinkley for 9 am and started the day with a coffee or 2 whilst going over what we wanted to get out of the extra days course.
The day was run as a 2 trainees to 1 instructor and the format seems to work well.
After getting to know a little about each others type of riding and areas that wanted a little more attention we set off.
The day was nice and relaxed with no pressure to "perform".
Gentle guidance was given throughout the day and appraisals on riding style/technique via radio contact.
Ive come away from the day knowing more than I did before, more confident in general but not with an over confidence to "take on the world on 2 wheels":D.
My road positioning is much better making me a much smoother rider thus also Increasing my presence on the road due to higher visability.
My cornering is getting better I still need more practice but its getting there.
It was a long day and didn't get back home till after dark but the day flew by.
I went through a tank and a half of fuel so the mileage was well covered too!

Just to sum up:- This day cost me £20 thanks to warwickshire council (cheers guys ), I have learnt more about my riding than I thought I would in one single day, I wasnt treated like a trainee who didnt know better (as I have heard about other courses) and have come away knowing that I have had a great day and not wasted my time (who knows, some of it might even have saved my life but will never know!)

If you have a scheme near you like this, its well worth a look.

It's worth giving them a call, it's open to ppl who live, work or study in Warwickshire so you might be able to blag it.

Well, from April the scheme is being extended to other neighbouring counties, so I've PM'd you his number!:D

Lots of miles (200+), lots of laughs, lots of p*ss-taking, lots of fun!

Jester got a puncture so couldn't do it either, so we kidnapped Tilt!:D

Yeah, he was gutted. He's going to book another day out with Tony around May. Perhaps you two could do it together?

Couldn't have asked for a better day weatherwise.

So turned up at Long Itch to find Tony (the observer) and Jester chatting. Jester had come in his car to apologise in person for getting a puncture on his Gixxer and would not be able to participate.

Luckily Tilt turned up and we pressganged him into attending. Not many people would commit to a whole days riding and paying for the pleasure too.

So paperwork done, earphone and radio fitted a tentative route was decided on. Tony wanted to head Shropshire Herefordshire way as the scheme was being extended to those areas and he wanted to explore some roads.

Banbury first then over to Ma Larkins at Chipping Norton. Not for a brew but for the first assessment, of many, on our riding. I got told that I offsided often too late putting the Duke at risk. Off up to Evesham, but then down to Stow, a dodgy B road to Tewkesbury. Another evaluation stop then a lunch stop at British Camp. More discussion about riding technique, road positioning and why we do things.

Over to Ross, up to Hereford and another stop. Tony rarely used the one way intercom. Usually to give a direction change or very occasionally to suggest trying a new idea. Such as straightlining an empty roundabout.

The day was getting on so we decided to head homeward up to Worcester and then the final stop for all 3 of us at Alcester. On this last section Tony led and we dutifully tried to follow. He was on a brand new Honda cbf600s which he'd only first ridden the night before. He was on the pace though and good run back was had.

We waved goodbye to Tilt as he headed Gaydon bound and a spirited ride down the Fosse and over to Southam was completed by the 2 of us.

After one last natter we headed our seperate ways.

So after 9 hours and 200 miles how do I feel? Was it worth it?

It was like going out with a mate for a days ride, only the mate is prepared to point out some of your faults and has the experience and training to suggest how to rectify them, get more out of your riding and riding more safely. Remember safely does not neccesarily mean slower, indeed it can aid your speed. However it wasn't all about the course. Plenty of banter, tales of yore and general chit chat. Just like any other day out for me.

I thoroughly enjoyed the whole day. I will endeavour to incorporate all the things Tony suggested from now on.

Recommended for everybody IMO.

Glad you had a good day pete:)
looks like Tilt got lucky too (or unlucky depending on what way you look at it!)
I found that Tony has a gentle manner when putting his point across which seemed to work well with me and the other candidate I went with.
Hopefully schemes like this will take off and will also reduce casualties.
If every county had the same approach to road safety everyone would get a good days riding and extra instruction:cool:.
