come on then dudio how does it work? ;)
if you pass your test when you're aged between 17 and 21 you can only get a restricted A1 license

you have to ride with this restriction for a period of 2 years upon which you are automatically upgraded to a full A catagory license, if you did your test on your 17th birthday you'd have a catagory A license on your 19th birthday

If you reach the age of 21 during this 2yr period you can opt to do another test to upgrade your A1 to an A license before the 2yr period is up

so in theory a 19 yr old could ride a GSXR 1000 at full power after 2 years of 33bhp...
in which case i stand corrected.. bit stupid though.. but then again anything in this country to do with bikes is stupid.. why not just allow people to do there das at 19? lol

must be all that young untamed testosterone again;) why do ya think women get cheaper insurance....more mature:mrgreen: why do you think at 25 insurance for car or bike 'for men' takes a plunge?
Sorry but there must be a little truth in it somewhere, I find it very odd, as I've said many times the difference in insurance prices between me and Im Indoors, in the beginning of my biking career.....and still going on! Can still get any bike cheaper than him:cheers:

In theory he wouldn't have to ride anything in those two years

Oh I thought it was 21, always good to know, still have 2 years to wait so restricted access is the way.
Oops! sorry for introducing the confusion  I'm sure you all know the right answer now thanks YC, TLW et al.

This is known as 'accelerated access', just in case folks here this term bandied about :)

My friend is 19 this year and thats when his A2 goes to an A license. It costs him £1000 to go full comp on a kawi 6r from when hes restriction is up. If the DSA stop dicking about, I'll be 19 when my license is moved to a category A bearing in mind I pass.

Oh right, well there might be some sense in getting the 675 restricted for a couple of months. Depends if he can find a cheap-ish one

Just think. Quarter turn throttle one day, full twist next:twisted:

I really would not recommend doing this at home, folks;)
