hi i have a K3 SV650s and im told by T7 Honda that my thermostat switch is broken, which figures becuase ive never reali seen the fan on, im just wondering if anyone knows if a thermostat switch from a curvy would fit on my bike,
found this - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/breaking--sv650-sv-thermostat-stat-switch_W0QQitemZ390031033066QQcmdZViewItemQQimsxZ2 0090214?IMSfp=TL0902141210002r19739
i wanna try and get it sorted before the summer and T7 are trying to rip me off £48 for one
thanks!
fu*k me mate i just paid 63 quid for that thing:smt019 It fits but the wirings diffarent had to get the garage to soider it on!! im just going to kick my self in the head now

Lol you are curious why fan doesn't work in this weather?
What made you check it?

it was in getting the valve clearances checked just and they must have noticed the fan wasnt working or sumthin! ill take their word for it, my fan never comes on, but the bike still seems to be able to keep a steady 89-103 degrees, never seen it go any hotter even in traffic!

Seems fairly normal to me.
Test the switch yourself IMO.

how would i do that? jus let it heat up standin still n see if it ever comes on? it will heat up to like 100 degrees then drop down to high 80's even when its sitting still, but the fan doesnt come on. Ive owned the bike since january last year and ive seen the fan on maaaybe twice, both times quite close to when i first got it

Yeah that is the thermostat cycling.
When's the last time the coolant was changed?

T7 changed the coolant wen they wer doin the valves, so couple of months ago just

Fair enough, to take switch out to test it you need to drop the coolant though.

yeh ano they told me that! do you recon its vital that i get it done? i never had a problem with it overheating last summer and it was out in quite a few hot days. Ill see if i can win that ebay auction, soldering wires isnt hard so i mite just give it ago.

So they base their claim of the switch not working on what I wonder? It is an easy test before you buy any other parts.

is this the part that screws into the thermostat housing?
yorkie_chris

No, the one on the rad

its the bit that screws into the back of the radiator on the right hand side, so how is it i actually test it if i was to take it out?

yes that! im not sure if the actual thing that detects the temp is in that or the connector that goes into it though

Disconnect the sensor. Turn ignition on with engine off. Short across the connector on the loom side. The fan should run.
Then dump the coolant and remove the sensor. Or just remove the sensor and lose the bit of coolant out of the rad.
Put it in a pan of oil and heat it up with a thermometer in there and a resistance meter connected, or better yet a test light.
It should close the circuit (light the lamp, or show low resistance) at 96 deg... and go back to open circuit (infinite resistance) at 91.

double check with yc if its the right thing and i'll get you it for under a tenner (from an 04 bike)

P.s that ebay auction you linked me to is wrong, the curvy uses a different connector.
That thing of huskys looks like the part, but check your own first. I'm not entirely sure there's anything wrong with it.

yeh it the one in my bike looks identical to that!, in theory i should be able to disconnect the connector box, unscrew the sensor, screw the new one in, connect it again, fill it with coolant and thats me sorted?

Yes but why bother when you have no evidence if it works or not? Except for a garage telling you it doesn't, have they done the tests that the manual and common sense suggest? I doubt it.

i just let the bike run there in my garage and it will heat up to about 99 degrees then drop to 88, then it will heat up again and the fan will come on breifly at about 108 degrees and keep the temp arround that! which means the switch is working?? or does it jus cut in at too high temp
