Just put a sump full of Comp 4 in.
She absolutely purrs now. Lovely!
And with just a few drops spilled this time. Even many months apart on oil changes, one seems to be getting better at it!
So much nicer for not having to scrub the path too much afterwards.
Sweeeeet!

That should be enough motivation to do it often. :)

a toast, to well maintained motorcycles:drink:
oh yea, question: what do you do with your old oil? where do you dispose of it?

I keep the previous (now empty) 5L oil container and fill that up with used oil. I use this to top up my scottoiler. Once it's full/I have another spare container I put it with the pile of "stuff to take to the tip" that lives near my bin.

+1.
Used engine oil gets stored & transferred into my scottoiler when required.
As for the engine sound after an oil change. Treat it to plugs/filters & a carb/TB balance at the same time. Then you'll understand what love is.
There is a reason I play with throttle bodies whenever the tank is up. :makelurve:

when you have one that leaks oil from the clutch cover, its on permanent oil change:rolleyes: ;-)

I was going to call BS on this.
But mine was schweeet toooo!!!!!!
It's like it has less engine braking - which is a good thing, especially under acceleration.
(& I put semi syth car oil in, 2 ltrs of Mobile and the 3/4 litre or whatever it required of Tesco's finest )
Oh & why do I always drop the sump plug which immediately falls into the opening to the catch tray & plug it

Erm, you don't like your clutch then?
While I've found in the past that a sump full of clean oil can make gear changes a little slicker, I'd possibly worry if the bike sounded drastically different after a change.

Yes, but if it sounds drastically different after the change it could be just the bike telling you to change it more often.

I need to do an oil change really as hasn't been changed since I bought bike last april (about 2500-3000 miles i think). Busters have an offer on at the moment http://www.busters-accessories.co.uk/productInfo.aspx?catRef=902041 is this the oil I should be using? Is there a good tutorial online for changing the oil on a K5 pointy S?
That oil is fine, but postage at £5 :smt102. I hear Hein Gericke sell oil for £14.
I would change the filter every other oil change so if you don't know if that was done you need one of them. You're supposed to change the sump plug washer every time. That's probably overkill, it's up to you. Should be able to get all from your Suzuki dealer.
warm the engine a bit first, switch off have a catch tray under the sump & remove the sump plug 17mm IIRC, remove the filter if you want to, allow to drain, replace sump plug & washer, if you removed the oil filter make sure you removed the rubber seal, put some fresh oil on the new rubber seal & hand tighten the oil filter. pour the oil into the oil fill hole in the clutch cover, check oil level with bike both wheels onflat lvel ground & bike upright (not on side stand)

Don`t forget that it is supposed to be run for a little bit and then allowed to settle for 3 minutes and then have the level checked , takes about 2.3 litres to fill her up (on K3 onwards anyway , dunno about Curby Sv`s)
Must admit that around the time my bike is ready for an Oil transfusion she feels a bit "tight" if you get my drift . Once it`s done she feels a free`er and a bit zippier , but only a little :)
And Stu , I always drop the damn plug into the drainer as well , isn`t the Sump plug 15mm ?

Sump plug on my two K4 /K5 are both an Allen socket.
Copper washer can be reused buy heating it to red hot and 'quenching' it under water. it will make the copper soft again.
As per previous guides, I'll tick the bike over to 50-60 degreesC then drop the oil. you dont want it too hot to burn, or too cold that you''l be waiting years for it to flow.
You can do an oil filter change with lowers attached.
when putting new filter on, as stu said, wipe seal with oil, but don't screw it on too tight or you'll never get it off next time, it doesn't need a lot to seal it. And its a filter every other oil change (all in your handbook)

Not on my ZX it's not ;)Don`t forget that it is supposed to be run for a little bit and then allowed to settle for 3 minutes and then have the level checked ,That's good for a final check, but I would want to see some oil in the window before I started her up  takes about 2.3 litres to fill her up (on K3 onwards anyway , dunno about Curby Sv`s)I would have guessed at more even if you didn't change the filter. To be safe I would make sure you had the best part of 4 litres availbe before starting the job :)

Ahh! I think you have the makings of a knowledgeable biker there! The decline must be so gradual to me that I don't notice nuthink :smt102
Strange, I was going to post this too, bike just came back from a service and she is definitely happier :)

For some reason mine is a Hex head that takes a 15mm socket and has a magnetic tip on it . My crush-washer is Aluminium on mine , I just flip it over and tighten down onto the lip formed from a previous install :smt040

No because it`s the lip that then sits against the flat part of the sump and creates a seal when the Sump bolt is tightened up . Used to do it quite a lot on my Apprenticeship on Hydraulic systems .
