View Full Version : In case of emergency!

Just heard of this on Facebook and think it seems like a good idea.
Basicly, as more or less everyone has a mobile, you store the person you would like contacted in an emergency, under the name ICE (in case of emergeny).
The idea was started by a paramedic and apparently it's catching on.
So for example in my phone I've added "I.C.E Home" (parents) and "I.C.E SISTER" (speaks for itself).
This will help the right people get contacted quickly in the event of an accident.
I think this is a good idea so thought I'd pass it on!;)
Shifter, this has been suggested and posted soooooooo many times. Always good for a reminder though.

So when your sister rings you does your phone display ICE Sister instead of her name?

Yep but I can just about cope with it, also put in the full stops to make it an abreviation. She's not a cold hearted person most of the time but don't tell her I told you!

You can these now as well, quite pricey at £20 but a good idea none the less. My only question is how wide is the use? I haven't seen anything in LAS vehicles that can read them, or in any another vehicle as it happens.

If its a minor incident then you can usually make the calls yourself, but if it is serious the last thing you want the emergency services to do is faff about contacting all and sundry. You want them concentrating on their main job which is sorting out the injuries you have just aquired.

If they call Ice on my phone they'll be through to the big Vanilla;
Rolling in my 5.0, rag top down so my hair can blow.....
Seriously, I have my dad's home down as In Case of Emergency, he's retired so in most of the time.
Persoanlly i think anyone can figure out to call Mum, or Dad on your phone, however i am soon to buy a dog tag to wear when on the bike with ICE and a number on there as what happens if your phone gets smashed, no one will know what to do then!
Think they would need to figure out what the pin is on my phone first...

My lad lost his mobile whilst at a youth festival in the summer. He had ICE stored in his mobile and the police who were present at the festival dialled the number (someone had handed the phone in) and we got the phone back within 30 mins of him losing it.
Saved me a few quid!

Maybe not a the scene, but at the hospital later. Or if the police attend as they usually do, they may have a few minutes.

You really should unlock your phone out whilst riding. Obviously need to lock the keypad though.
And generally, make sure the phone is charged up and topped up creditwise.
I also now carry, a printed sheet in my leathers interior pocket and bumbag, listing ICE numbers, recovery numbers and where the bike should be recovered to. Just in case I'm unable to deal with thos things myself.

I don't understand what's wrong with 'home' or 'mum' or 'life partner raóul'

For a lot of adults, Home or Mum, may not be the next of kin. Lissa is my next of kin. How would you guess that, or do the married guys put wife?
Nice insight into your private life though Dave:mrgreen::mrgreen:
Should ensure you get the single room at the Hardy Bikers.:D

haha, surely home would be where your wife resides though ...although fair point there will be quite a few adults with no recogniseable next of kin (by name).
I look forward to it...I snore anyway!

There's nothing wrong with it, but for example, my folks live in NZ... whereas the other half is far closer.

You are showing some very old fashioned values Dave. Most partners need to go to work, so Home would just be the landline to the residence.

I have a set of dog tags which I wear all the time (I'm epileptic). It has my wife's phone number, my Alberta Health # and medication I'm on.
I got them from the states for about $20.00.
