Right, I've now been out on my bike about 4 times, and see lots of other bikers on the road (especially yesterday - what a good day!) Seems like there's a bikers club with lots of people either nodding (going the other way) or a little wave if they're overtaking (I'm still a bit slow!) Some don't acknowldege at all though.
So what's the done thing? What do you do? Does it depend what type of bike the other rider is on?
Be interested to hear opinions... :)
Some bloke on a bike nodded at me while i was doing some training on a little 125. I nodded back, it seems to be the thing to do. I wouldn't nod at a moped though.

nod....just a little aknowleadgement(sp?) to a fellow biker.....
only if it doesnt take your concentration away from the road / conditions...ie when filtering
personally i tend to only nod to sports type bikes..not chromosexuals or mopeds...
its more of a habit now really....cant say ive ever waved to anyone tho.....

I get nods from a Dominos boy! Same one all the time (I wonder if her's trying to tell me something;)) However he's a biker just as much as anyone else, so I return the compliment. Do to others as you would done to you...

Same as Kwak. Anything on two wheels. Except little Chavs in track suits on 50cc mopeds cos..well.. they are chavs.
Oh and if I am able to I wave...cos I like waving, it makes me giggle.

Hardly see another bike during the week, but if I do they get the works. Nod / wave / leg-out/ Black Power etc. :)

London bikers (commuters) don't seem to, but outside on the A3 I get them (nods).

Nod at everything with two wheels and a motor, every one is a biker. Hell I even nod when I'm in the cage, but no one notices!

Oh, and I nod at everything, even Harleys.
nod or wave to all bikes, although i tend not to bother the mopeds, as they are mostly chavs, and they never wave/nod back.
there was a thread about the org having its own sectret wave, which would be fun

GLSUK - Like the sig of the chicken chaser! Quality. I didn't realise what one was. A friend of my Dad runs a car repair business and uses a Chicken chaser when collecting customers cars. He reckons it'll not get nicked where ever he leaves it, although the business is in Surrey and not da ghetto!
A3 on Thursday/Friday afternoon & evening, So why don't you get yourself up to Soho on a Fri evening? :Dsometimes Monday Morning. Will look out for you then :)

I leave Uni ~ 5pm so I'm a bit early and it takes 1hr to get home, so I'm in the void :(
I will try to make it one Friday though :D

Yeah, quite a lot. Biggest nod was off one standing at the side of the road with a speed-gun pointed at me!

I nod at most motorcyclists. Those I refuse to nod at are: idiotic kids on mopeds/scooters (you can spot them a mile off) or "bikers" without full bike kit.

Bit of noddage for me. Never get a response from cruiser riders (specially Harley's) and don't nod at ped riders, even if they nod first :batman:

B.M.W's are a funny lot too.
Thank goodness Evie M is away this week, and won't read your rude comments about moped riders. She's getting a moped next month so that she can make a start on learning the road ready for when she can take her full test when she's 17. And this is the same for 5 of her friends.
Not all mopeds are chavs, they are learners dreaming of bigger bikes. Come on guys give them a break and a wave, it'll make their day!

Nod!!!!
I remember when i first starting riding and came across my first rideout of about 30 bikes, *coughs* i nodded to every bike!!!!
Sideways nod in London - one in ten are reciprocated.
pity the poor sods that started nodding to us on the AR.Bet they had a mahosive neck ache afterwards
i do the snod sometime's the leg shake if i'm in a really good mood.
I never seem to get nods from Power Rangers on the gixxers ect :(
Nod at the ped riders, it will make their day :)
Were all on two wheels here, disrespective of capacity or style..
I always nod to other bikers. Proper scooters (Vespa's/Lambretta's) get a nod. Chavs on scooters don't.

Nod in the UK, wave in the US, anything with 2 wheels and a motor.
Those old men riding scooters love it when someone on a big bike acknowledges them. ;)
Don't feel bad about the Harley's not nodding /waving.
I went on a charity ride with a Harley group once. (in the US)
During the ride we passed another H-D group....a few of which waved at this group.
None of the group I was with waved back. :p
They don't even acknowldege other Harley riders!!! LOL

Always a nod.
As Quiff has done, nod to a biker whilst walking down the street and usually do get a nod back.

Like it! That's a good one.
With regards to Harley riders not nodding back, guess you can't really blame them on 2 fronts. One, the bikes look really difficult to control what with your feet not much lower than the handlebars, and second most of them are getting on a bit...maybe the eyesight isn't up to much these days :D
I like the idea of nodding at pedders as long as they don't look like chavs. I seems like the decent thing to do :takeabow:
Nod if coming the other way, wave if overtaking, leg out some times to anyone except the kids on 50cc mopeds.

re: wave when overtaking-
Uki will tell you- we overtook some Harley riders who were cruising on the M6.. (may have been on way home from Ar) and when we waved appreciation they took it as a thanks for letting the fast boys past and within 5 mins were hurtling past us with arms gesticulating to have a race.!!
being mature- we declined. !

I always nod, even to scooter riders, especially since it was a scooter rider that stopped and helped me bump start my bike when the batter flat. I'll even nod to harley riders, if only out of bloody mindedness as they nod back by far the least out of all groups of riders. That's even including power rangers on litre sportsbikes on a sunny Sunday when you're on a commuter hack, which is saying something. I've seen a few custom riders dispute this claim, but they seem to overlook the fact that if you're on a custom, they are much more likely to wave at you and hence their experiences are not representative of the majority. :)
They don't even acknowldege other Harley riders!!! LOL

yep always nod to the police and usually get one back.....(well the ones on bikes like:rolleyes:)
when walking if im carrying my helmet i give a passing biker a nod and get one back but not when im in normal clothes/not carrying a helmet....
i never nod at mopeds....16yr old chavs usually (sorry mrs M!) but do tend to not at the 125 L plate lot as they usually on their way to a bigger bike....
I said i dont nod to chromosexuals.....this wasnt a dig at them....just after about 6 months of nodding and never getting a reply and cursing at them inside my helmet (out loud, i know im not the only one who does this!) I gave up with them lol
yep always nod to the police and usually get one back.....(well the ones on bikes like:rolleyes:)
Yeah a copper nodded at me on the way back from Southampton on sunday, which suprised me. :)
Perhaps all H-D riders want to not, even try to nod, but can't because they have such advanced vibration white finger it has reached their heads.
