One reason I have not ever entered the place - ever since they admitted on TV the only reason for the site was to collect personal data that they could sell ...

myspace used to have that rule, as soon as people realised they soon changed it, when did that go into the agreement? or has it always been there?

Er

"subject only to your privacy settings"

What's the big deal? If you don't want them to re-use it, don't make it public.

It's pretty obvious that its all only to do with ad targetting and data collection. The thing is, is it worth it? I have gotten in contact with many old friends, organise event much easier and see photos and statuses of what people are up to. i think it makes you a much more connected person, which has its own value. Do I care if Facebook know my name and favourite music? No!

Would you care if they went to press with your opinions (as publically stated on Facebook), and attached a picture of your Mug, all plastered on the side of busses.

All without them paying you a dime?

I've often thought it'll be quite funny when the next generation of politicians are inducted. Imagine in 20 years time when you'll be able to see/read all about the new Prime Minister's youthful drunken antics from his own page! :D

I would LOVE that! Seriously, imagine a big photo of me on a bus lord kitchener style saying "Nick says "Get a job you worthless dole scroungers!""

Not really it was just for your information - why would it bother me what happens to you?

If I had been THAT bothered I would have posted a link to the real page for deleting your facebook profile.

Was more an illustration of just how everyone should remember that you dont get anything for nothing.

However Warty, how would you like it if it was an easily identifiable picture of you drunk as a skunk being used as an anti-drinking poster?

With these kinds of policies the phrase "What goes on the Net stays on the Net" is even more true than of when the search engines and varied archiving sites started up.

Fair enough. Knowing your hatred of apple/microsoft etc I perhaps wrongly assumed you hated fakebook (sic) and wanted everyone to comment as to how 'terrible' they are, whereas it seems most couldn't really give a rats that their media rights are being taken.

I apologise for the assumption! :p

Well, then the sensible thing would be to adopt a similar policy to that when using your work email. I don't type anything in an email at work that I wouldn't be happy for it to be printed out and put onto the work fridge for everyone to see.

SK! You digital legend. Have you heard about picsel in glasgow filing a suit against apple over their screen rendering/refreshing software which apple have allegedly used in their iphone and other itouch products?

As for facebook, my missus used to work in a hospital up north and one of her old colleagues/friends (who's a lovely girl but completely daft) posted pics of herself messing around with hospital equipment, namely lying down on hospital beds doing silly poses... one of the sisters caught a glimpse of the pics on facebook = 12 week suspension and final written warning.

Facebook: It's all fun and games till someone loses an eye (or their job)

On Facebook as of this morning:

Terms of Use Update

Over the past few days, we have received a lot of good feedback about the new terms we posted two weeks ago. Because of this response, we have decided to return to our previous Terms of Use while we resolve the issues that people have raised.

Actually you assume right tbh

I signed up to see what it was all about - and found that due to all the cack on it even when I was getting emails notifying me of "stuff" it was such a hassle and a poor experience I gave up on it.

And you have NO control over what is up there about you - a "friend" (in facebook terms) can put a pic that THEY took of you and then tag it - that picture - no matter what it is - is then linked to you.

Send a CV to an employer and if your email address is the same as your Facebook registered one there is a good chance they could be looking at your holiday snaps before deciding whether to see you.

Its a huge invasion of privacy - well it would be if it was an invasion - people are just giving this stuff away.

Its just another tech-fad, and why should my work etc benefit someone else without me getting a cut?

Seriously, what rights did people think they had?

You upload a file to the internet, a system designed to copy and distribute files easily across the globe, and then expect to be able to delete it when you want? Fools.

Anyway, it's all old news http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/7896309.stm

Well I do believe that as it stands, anything I put up on the internet is owned by me - I have a copyright.

Therefor I can make anyone who uses my work have to remove it or pay me for the privilege of using my work.

Facebook was intending to steal this right from me.

So theres one right there.

Oh and before anyone comments on my views on other people's copyrights - well I never said I was consistent :)

Thats pretty much what I was saying in my last paragraph.

But it IS still useful for controlling who does what with your stuff.
