Hi,

After hours and hours of searching various sites and finding various potential solutions - my bike still runs on one cylinder  (the front is dead as a dodo).

The problem started as an intermittent problem, on idle it would miss a beat now and again.

It got worse and was running on one cylinder approaching and pulling away from round abouts etc.

Now it runs on one all the time apart from at 3000k when it runs and drops out again at 6000k +.

I tried new plugs, disconnecting the tacho, carb cleaner and nothing.

I did however, last week put some fuel additive (which claimed to clean carbs) and it ran a whole tank almost?!?

I bought some more this morning and it made no difference this time :(

So, it sits with the tank up, carbies showin and now I need some help real bad....

The bike:

12/1999 SV650S and I can find no model number?

I would love to get some help on this as i'm at my wits end :smt072

Coils & HT leads. Swap em over from front to back etc.

There seems to be a lot of them failing at the mo.

Forgot about the HT leads too Baph.
You may find if you take the HT leads off, that they are corroded down the core. I've had one literally fall off in someones hands.
If yours are foobarred, you can get carbon cored ones at Halfrauds cheap enough. Nice orange ones :-)

Thanks for the help!

Yep, it's the front - it runs the same with the front carb covered.

I took the front lead off just to double-check there was a spark and it was a good one.

I popped it back on to show a friend what was happening and...yep...you guessed it - it ran on BOTH!

Not overly smooth on idle but it was running normal again.

I was kind of happy but now it's fixed I'm not sure what was the cause.

I guess I can rule out carbs/blockages.

Do leads fail/work/fail/work etc. or just stop?

I notice that the coils are attached to the leads, so leads can't be replaced :(

Do leads fail/work/fail/work etc. or just stop?

Coils, leads and plug caps can work when they want, this has happened to me twice on 2 bikes (ok they were 50ccs but they still worked when they wanted to)

I suppose i'll have to price up the lead/plug/coil then...

Hopefully that will resolve it :)

On a different note - when I bough the bike, the front wheel would come up if I accelerated hard - now it's sluggish and you can go flat out in each gear without any "rush" what-so-ever? - kinda boring.

I do like the bike but if it's anything like the luck I have with cars - these are signs to get rid :( ???

Oh I changed the plugs for ones that run hotter and it was fast again, for a day or so - then back to Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
