I'm a newbie looking at buying an SV. I've seen a black 07 faired SV650 that's got some damage - I'm considering buying it and removing the fairing to make it a naked. I guess I'll need to buy a top yolk and bars plus headlight and brackets etc.

But my main question is does any know what would be involved in remounting the clocks to make it the naked version - If you see what I mean.

My problem is I don't have a bike to refer to.

Any advice is much appreciated.

The Pointies use the same clocks faired and naked, the naked top yoke has the mounting points for the clock bracket.

Clock bracket part no: 34162-16G30

Thanks Sid, That's as I suspected.

So I assume it would be a case of removing the fairing and fitting a set of top yolks from and unfaired bike. If anyone can think of any other considerations I'll need to make it would be much appreciated.

Then I can sell the original fairing on ebay and get some £££ back too !!

Cheers,

Jay

Sid - Is the ignition on a naked in the same area as a faired, I'm sure I remember speaking to Grinch and he said on the curvy it was slightly off centre? Is that the same with a pointy?

Ignition switch will fit fine.

Motorbikes have yokes. Yolks are found in eggs.

Longer cables/ brake hoses I think too.

While a naked top yoke (does that mean you need the bottom yoke too?) is easier to mount the clocks. It would be a lot better looking IMO to keep the clip ons. It's not impossible to fashion a mounting for the clocks with a faired top yoke. Is it Sid Squid? ;)
how easy would it be to change to a naked top yoke but remove the bar risers? (& keep clip ons)

In my case, I'd be looking to make the complete switch. i.e puting straight bars on (nice black renthals !).

I've got my eye on a cosmetically damaged SV650 - '07 all black. Breaker wants £2K I figure I could whip of the damaged fairing and convert it to a naked (my preference) then sell all the extra bits to fund the bits I need.....hopefully I'll end up not spending much more than two grand. Then I could spend £500 on lots of goodies (can/hoses/power commander) !!

OK furry muff Jay but just for the record seeing as I've now been told
Changing to a naked top yoke which is what you want to do, you don't need a different bottom yoke. You could easily remove the bar risers & leave it tidy with clip ons, but as you want bars, that will be fine too.

As to your mods; can = yes, hoses - no need, unless the cosmetic/bling is reason enough for you. PC the same.

I would go as far as to say that the PC is a COMPLETE waste of time and money.

Don't underestimate the cosmetic/bling benefits of a PC on an SV ;)

You're right - I forgot about the extra 10bhp on the old butt-dyno

Why does the bottom yoke need changing too - I assumed they would be the same on both models - explain please ? :)

It doesn't. they are the same, sorry for the confusion.

Some bikes have more of a difference between faired & naked models but not the sv650
